Steve - don't hold your breath.

This is the same organization that recently admitted in legal proceedings that it filled the position of Director of Field Operations “by hiring an individual with no previous knowledge of bridge directing or bridge tournaments”.

Yep - the Meyers were a formidable brother/sister combo. Probably second only to Reggie and Cheryl Miller.

Ummm… Bill W. wasn't part of the 1975 team since he had already graduated.

The center on the 1975 squad was Richard Washington.

Not Bill W's final game - that came the following year in the double OT loss in the NCAA semis to eventual champs NC State.

Barry - while one might think of many responses to a negative post that is based on pure hearsay, I must confess that asking the poster to elaborate on matters of conduct of which he has no first-hand knowledge seems a less than obvious choice.

I'll add another suggestion.

When a post is not formatted in optimal manner, please try and resist the temptation to immediately (and often dismissively) comment on format shortcomings, while ignoring the substance of the article.

Encouraging participation while providing polite education seems the best way of dealing with this issue.

Yep - you were never in doubt as to where Bart stood on an issue.

Gary - you're half right. It is thankless (and very time consuming) but it's not all drudgery.

I was a panelist for the second and third case-books (1996) and found much of the work to be quite interesting.

And there were some fascinating personalities. Ron Gerard stands out as having a unique voice. His comments on Case 38 of the Philadelphia (1996) casebook (at p.166) are a useful example of his take-no-prisoners approach to the task.

But it's a great deal of work: Rich and EOK granted me early parole since I couldn't give the time necessary to do a proper job of it.

Chip - in ‘At the Table’ Bob Hamman writes that ‘conventional wisdom’ had assumed Meckwell would be added to San Francisco's 4-man GNT winners for the purposes of the 1985 International Team Trials.

Instead, per Bob H., he and Bobby Wolff were added to the team at your recommendation, based in no small measure on what you had seen when you stayed to kibitz the finals of the 1984 ITT after your team had been knocked out.

The recommendation was a great success since your team won both the ITT and the Bermuda Bowl in ‘85 and ’87.

To the extent Bob H.'s recollection jibes with your own, what led you to recommend Hamman-Wolff over Meckwell?

Ray - this thread should be required reading. The comments are clear, to the point, and often amusing. And the great majority of the participants are able to disagree without getting personal. Considering the subject matter, surprisingly few exchanges buttress MR's point that critical comments of a personal nature generally reveal more about the poster than about the target.

Kit - your critical clue also meshes well with the title selected by MR. ‘Comeuppance’ would have been a give-away.

I will cheerfully *many* more NABCs when (if?) the ACBL agrees to meet with the organizers of the Australian Gold Coast Congress in order to identify and implement best practices.

Mr. Pascal - while I don't share many of your views, I'd nonetheless like to express my appreciation for your willingness to engage in a frank exchange of opinions.

I'm particularly impressed that you are doing so in a second- language in what might be described as an adversarial environment.

“I am not passing a 12 count”.

When rubbishing the actions taken by multiple world champions, it's useful to explain what you would have done instead.

What imaginative bid would you have made with this hand after RHO opened 1D?

“I happen to think the current process is horrible and makes it far too easy for cheats to get away with it, and that process has to be fixed. But whatever the process is, people should respect the outcome.”

Fortunately, civil rights activists - to name but one example - have consistently adopted a different perspective.

Nedju - the CAS went out of its way to state that the EBL's failure to meet the high standard of proof required for a conviction did *not* mean Fantunes had not cheated.

And the paltry (in context) cost award granted to FanTunes suggests where the CAS' sympathies lay.

So I think the EBL both can, and will, refuse to extend an invitation to FanTunes to play in any championship events.

The EBL and WBF championship events are “by invitation”. When a player qualifies they are extended an invitation to play.

The Credentials Committee has discretion to withdraw that invitation, without having to specify why.

B-Z were unable to play for Poland in the 2015 Bermuda Bowl in Chennai when the Credentials Committee, chaired by the same Yves Aubry, withdrew their invitation.
