Well I won't deny that cheating is the most serious offense at bridge (or at whichever sport for that matter).
Now Stalin, Charles Manson, Voldemort, Peg-Leg Pete or Ann Coulter (just kidding…well almost) are evil.
But Fantoni, Nunes and Co.? Sounds weird to me.
.
P.S : Much as I like your insightful comments on BBO, I respectfully request of you to call me Olivier, not Oliver ;-)

In the light of recent events and out of sheer pique (hoho dear me), the WBF has decided to cancel the last eighteen rounds of the RR.
Consequently, France wins its third Bermuda Bowl.
See you in Lyon 2017 :-)

P.S : Please Mr. Rona, don't sue me. Just kidding.

Does cheating qualify as “evil behaviour”?
AFAIAC it's more in the “inappropriate” (Hi, Mr. Clinton) department.

This would look like an US chess team :-p
Being nasty here, I think Caruana was born in Miami.

“And the borders between states mean about as much as the borders between European ‘countries.’”

Are you serious?

For one thing, people are mostly defined by their languages and there is linguistic unity in the USA, though I seem to remember there is no official language for the federation as a whole.
Here a small country like Belgium has three official languages, and Switzerland has four. The EU is nothing short of heaven on Earth for translators and interpreters : 24 official languages!

Just 20 years ago, war was still raging in the Balkans. Talk about meaningless borders…

Do yourself a favor and work on your blatant lack of historical and sociological scope. Lecturing people on the significance of borders is definitely not (yet?) your thing.

Are you suggesting, Ms. Yoder, that Germany should be allowed to field several sides at the World Cup because 6 millions Germans are registered football players?
The more players you get to pick amongst, the greater your chances to have a team fighting for the title. Is this not a sufficient edge in itself?
And isn't it time to suppress the second US team at the BB?

There are roughly 100,000 bridge players in France. It wouldn't cross my mind to require several teams.

Yet another legendary partnership :-(

I suppose Barnet Shenkin will have to amend “Playing with the Bridge Legends” now…

Considering the frantic pace of withdrawals, I do hope Kiribati and St Kitts and Nevis can field a team at short notice

Whispers…whispers…
“ And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
” Matthew 7.3

There were extremely loud (and most certainly warranted) whispers about the Wundermädchen in the 80's.
Yet Marlies Goehr or Marita Koch are still around.
Florence Griffith-Joyner, on the other hand…

Cheating or not, they had to be declarers roughly 50% of the time. How could really poor players manage this part of the game without damage?

Of course, seeing as I'm an amateur and you're a professional player, our respective definitions of “poor” are most probably extremely different :-)
