Do Klukowski, Gawrys, Brink and Drijver have the slightest non-bridge reason to become Swiss citizens?

The answer is no.

People like Navratilova, Lendl, Seles…or Pszczola are perfectly ok for me. They emigrated and became real US citizens.

Caruana is half-American. On the other hand, Wesley So… I'm not a fan of his “transfer”, which was purely professional.

Your question is kinda funny though, seeing as you live in a country where John McEnroe could not become President because he was born in Germany. :-)

Neither do I. Football clubs are private companies, after all.

Countries are not…yet. And I would have serious problems with some dude taking control of a national football team and being allowed to inject players from everywhere into it.

I don't give a damn about Zimmermann cloning himself and fielding 20 teams for the NABCs, the European Club Championship, etc.

But manipulating and distorting national team events, nope.

Sure, I was thinking about established powerhouses, not about building a club from scratch.

He acts exactly like some Middle East potentate buying himself Man City or Paris Saint Germain.

The only difference is that he plays on the team.

Paul I'm by no means an überpatriot, but things must make sense.
A Monaco team with two Norwegians, two Italians, a Pole, a Frenchman and a Swiss makes no sense.
Neither does a Swiss team with two Dutchmen, two Poles and the aforementioned Swiss and French guys (I do suppose Multon will still be part of the circus).

I mean, what about the real Swiss players who now won't stand the merest chance of playing for Switzerland.
Because, you know, unlike Monaco, Switzerland is a “real country” with several millions of inhabitants.

Zimmermann is essentially trying to buy a BB. I don't blame him, mind you (Well…actually I do), I blame the system allowing him to do so.
His dough allows him to shape national teams as if they were mere professional football clubs. Call me reactionary if you wish, but I don't think it's normal, let alone desirable.

Peter
Did he? Thanks for the info. :-)

USA 1 are a “mere” 63 down, not 100.
I guess the Italians will resign if they're still trailing that badly after Segment 4.

Ryan Giggs was an outstanding football (yes football) player. So is Gareth Bale.
“Unfortunately”, they are Welsh and therefore could not/can't hope to become European or World Champions.
They live with it…seems that Zimmermann can't.

After the Monaco circus, he's now poised to try and win the Graal for his country (or should I say through his country), in harness with Dutchmen, Poles and, who knows, aliens from Alpha Centauri.

Can't imagine why the WBF lets this kind of farce happen.

Ah David, Chesterton got it wrong.
The problem is not that we'll never be English (God forbid!)*, but that you'll ALWAYS be “French”.

Is Harold the most hated historical figure in England?

* Just kidding ;-)

Well “ungrateful cheese-eating surrender monkeys”, “freedom fries” and all that sort of BS…That's just childish blabbering one can easily get over.

But pouring “Grands Crus” down gutters, THAT is UNFORGIVABLE :D

I'm a Grabosaurus Totalus and I love the “schplock” of a high level bid resounding upon the table.

Behind screens, of course, I become a Pickonodon vulgaris.

Be careful Cameron, “bien fait” means “you had it coming” ;-)
I remember the first time I saw this very serious chubby-cheeked (!) little (!) fellow at our (or rather at his, since he preceded me there) club, some seventeen years ago. Who could have known he'd become a star of such magnitude?
We just have to clone him and Thomas Bessis and no one will take the BB away from France until 2050 ^^

No Max. The only reason why I want everyone (on both sides of the screen) at the table for dealing is very simple. Let's say we have a difficult hand and one of our opponents chooses (for whichever reason, including incompetence) an inspired line. Now that would bother me for the rest of the match and most probably introduce a good deal of suspicion in our future encounters.
