I agree and prefer splinters

How about mini splinter where East will pass West's 3S bid?

If I'm disciplined, Stephen can enquire if he has any game interest via 2NT. I can cue (we don't splinter here) at 4 level. If I cue clubs, Stephen corrects to game or bids 4H last train with diamond control problem and slam interest.

Yes, our auction had more action from N/S. Over my 1S opening, South overcalled 2H, 3D GF from SFI. 3H from North, 4H from me and 5H from South. I thought pass over 5H was forcing and partner didn't have spade interest so I chose to bid 6D which was doubled and went down 3 on the hideous break.
3S from me rather than 4H was cost free but we may have still ended in 5S.

looked up knr and think that it may be superior but it doesn't look like something that's very practical for the average player to use other than as a reference post match

KnR=5.2? don't know this. I will respond with an Ace and most 5s. Lucky for all declarers to get away undoubled.

Good question Sue. I hear a lot of discussion about X saying “partner, I'm trying to stop you bidding 5”. Kate, your explanation of PIWA makes more sense to me but it raises another. If you X for blood and partner pulls, I would think this is an invitation?

yes, systemically this would be so for us. In the presence of so much bidding, I think penalty should be a possibility. If South passes 3D, is reopening X mandatory from North?
Does 3H from South suggest enough to play there so that North can re-evaluate their hand for game? One of those icky situations

Thank you Kate. I like “When pass is one of your options, DON'T PASS”. You hit the nail on the head with it as I've been letting the oppos get away with murder way too often… look out world! :)

Thanks Lori, these are great rules. I think that I should have doubled regardless on this hand but it would have made it much easier for me with this rule.

You mostly get them right. Good to know there are such things as decent robots. Stephen ditched a spade on 3rd club (after 2 rounds of trumps) and guessed the diamond position. East pitched a diamond on 3rd heart so Stephen managed to score 2 diamond tricks +140

hopefully you'll miss some ;) How about that 6S from Jodi yesterday missing 3 key cards? A and K of trumps drop singleton each and void in remaining Ace. Was indeed an exciting match. Nice bid from David to get her there.
