All of us that are old enough must have a Barry Crane story. Here is mine. On opening lead against Barry in a part score I made the winning opening lead. All that was needed was my for my partner (my step=mother) to play third hand high. She didn't and Barry scored up the part score.

I could not stop haranguing (spelling?) her for it. At dinner that night my father had finally had enough and said to me, “God damn it Rena! Enough. You would argue Christ off the cross.”

It was a wonderful (but painful) lesson in life delivered by a father loved dearly by this daughter.

Mike Edwards, Julie Greenberg said that it was the second session when he failed to appear. Do you know that to be so? He went home between sessions?

I think the original notion was to hold the Buffett Cup at same location and time as the Ryder Cup. Perhaps a thought of riding on the coattails of Ryder Cup publicity.

I personally think that those at the top of the heap in the bridge world who think somehow that the public at large will care about their sport and their accomplishments should think again.

It is my observation that most of the rank and file bridge players have no interest in the top players and further more no knowledge of who they are. They are stars in a very small constellation.

I would not have make a take out double but would have bid 4 Diamonds over 4C. Surely hot against not I must have a very good hand.

Richard always heeded the call to aid Jane Johnson and all her crew who served the clubs and club directors. To this day he does the same for Jane's successor Carol Robertson. But Mike, there are more than “a few” at ACBL who care about doing their job well.

Perhaps ACBL Meeting Planners should consider contracting with motels/hotels in West Memphis, just across the bridge. I just goggled West Memphis hotels and there appeared to be several inexpensive options. If somehow ACBL or, the various motels there in cooperation with each other, could arrange transportation to and from the convention center, a larger crowd could be persuaded to attend a Memphis NABC.

No argument from me Michael. Just an opinion that certainly could be all wet.

I think Michael there is usually a lag of a day or two in order to get the write up done and also a decision of the Daily Bulletin editor re space to publish. But then again it is a new procedure.

I believe the Tournament Chair Bob Williams is responsible for arranging the food wagons. This is his first time as chairman of an NABC Committee. Great to see his efforts in this praised.

google Memphis vegan restaurants. A list of 10 pops up. One in Midtown which would be a short Uber ride from Convention Center

How can the playing site be depressing when you can look out the window and see the Mighty Mississippi!

I have always been proud of Memphis for “owning” what happened here and creating the National Civil Rights Museum.

Max, did the three of you who got sick eat the same thing? The local tournament chair should alert Westy's.

It is too bad about the construction. I am guessing it was not known at the time the contract was negotiated that there would be construction. Not sure what “rights” ACBL might have vs “rights” of the convention center to have construction going on. I don't think it is the first time an NABC has had distracting noise going on. Bands and such.
