When I can count 14 tricks off the top, I bid at the eight level. Then I claim at trick one.

You can't actually do 6 sets an hour. You can do two sets an hour. If the machine is kept clean and has a lot of tender loving care, you can do three sets an hour. The reason sets from an outside vender is $10 a set is they have to pay somebody $20 an hour to make 2 sets an hour.

If you are making sets in real time, you are no longer interested in the average time to make a set. You care about the worse case time to make a set. Which is what do you do if a machine breaks down.

Before there was computers, people who played boardgames by mail involving dice rolling would agree to a future publish event for random numbers like the attendance at the yankee game mod 6. Today there are dice servers that will email you dice rolls. So I just have to have a dice server email me and a trusted authority a random seed. Oh I need a delay in the loop so people can't run off the hands themself because they know the seed.

As a director, declarer will play the clubs in whatever manner doesn't work. For that matter he loses the fifth round of whatevers because I don't presume he can count.

You haven't proven anything. As the evil tournament director who is out to get you personally, I have nothing better to do than run as many sets as it takes until I get a set of boards that is bad for your style/system. I of course know week in advance where you be sitting and what your opponents will bid.

So ping you going to have a caddy run boards among 3-4 table? Well, we heard from people who have to run a swiss and i guess I'm in that group since I run an eight is enough swiss. Do we want to give the smofs that run regionals a well thought out proposal of how this is going to be accomplished. Or a wish list of what we want followed by accusations of lack of imagination when they can't do it.

A pairs event needs 2-3 boards per table per session. 3 only for small sections. A team event requires 24 boards per pair of tables per session. If you aren't going to reshuffle after every round.

Asking for predealt hands quickly becomes an equipment issue. Figure out how many boards you need.

N should hold on toAQJ K. You always make 11 if you guess the end position.

At the last charity game, I had 12 tables so 36 boards in play. Condition of contest prohibitted running a web. Everyone wanted to know where are their other 4 analysis is. Thanks Barry for coming up with the analysis. I'm a director not a club owner so I didn't care about printing costs. I had to collate and staple it all.

On the 2 of clubs lead, east ducks it, then ruffs out the king and pitches a spade on the queen of clubs. On a big club lead, south shifts to a spade. Not really a squeeze. East doesn't have a threat behind north so no squeeze.

Easy to check using a dummy double solver. Correct. South needs to lead J, 10, or 8 of clubs to hold this to 10.

Nobody is required to play whatever they scribbled on their convention card. You can bid whatever you like. The convention card doesn't even have to show the “partnership agreement” if there is one. Since we are talking about useful rule changes. It makes a mess for the director too.

Sometimes partner makes me play something that sucks like gambling 3NT so I never do it. I'm hardly immune.

They have self learning computers now. They get an electric shock when they do bad. A green LED glow when they do good. Repeat a hundred million times. Then they play bridge better than any human. And curse partner like r lee ermey. I don't know how they learn that but they do. It's part of the learn bridge process.

Whenever someone fails to return partner's lead they get an electric shock.

Robert Putnam of Harvard “Bowling Alone” documents the decline of all group activities. I'm not from Hopkins generation but I think the invention of TV killed family get togethers.

My bidding comment. If 2 doesn't promise a four card major, east can't bid 4.

I was looking for an order of magnitude. Is it a hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand.

There are 17,000 people that made over $20K on OPR. Next year, will we see they same people making another $20K? Do the people that made a milion dollars this year lose two million dollars next year?

Somebody makes a living as a poker pro just as someone makes a living as a golf pro or a tennis pro. I wouldn't be surprised if its around 100 people but I don't know.

Do we know how many bridge pros there are? Not people who direct and teach a little bit but make a living at it.

See if anyone here knows. How many professional poker players have been playing over a decade and haven't gone broke yet?
