I think the 2S bid is dreadful and shows one of the major disadvantages of the way in which some players bid 2/1. How do you show extra values if you can reverse on this garbage? What is 3C supposed to mean now, 4th suit forcing?
After 3NT how sth can fail to bid 4C is beyond me. It seems to me that some 2/1 players just pull bids out of their whatsit until they reach the holy grail of 3NT.

Very rarely had this problem.

rofl, thanks for the compliment Ron, but I am old enough. However as I stated above, our X and subsequent NT bids would be a bit stronger, or certainly have a good source of tricks. I don't quite see the relevance of unlimited suit overcalls. We just played our overcalls as normal.

All of Richard's comments were true of Melbourne. As well most pairs played Acol, Swiss, and standard Blackwood. The avant garde played Precision and the high tech guys played relay Precision or strong pass systems.

As I stated in another thread, we earned a lot of Imps from the Polish NT overcall; far more than we lost. We were often able to up the bidding to the three level quickly, putting a lot of pressure on the opponents. Our range was 9-14.
There are 2 side effects to playing this.
1) you do not overcall 1NT with poor to average 15 count an barely a source of tricks.
2} You need to be careful against light openings. A corollary to 1} is that a light opening may sometimes get you.
We did not play Ron's beloved Power Doubles and I cannot say I recommend them.

Polish NT overcall, (Raptor for American players), is an excellent convention. We have garnered many imps from this bid.

So do you really believe you would not have reached 7NT anyway?

Polish Club is the same. If you do not open a Major you do not have 5.

“ North said he would never have bid 5♥ if he had known the East hand was stronger;” What a self serving comment. Here we have a player who cannot bid 3 or 4 over 1 but bids 5 over 4? Unbelievable. Result stands.

Whatever happened to Italy this Bermuda Bowl? One of the strongest teams in the world is playing very badly.

Might be incomplete, but still pretty good from what I remember. Also Nigel Dutton's notes are way out of date now.

I had some very thorough notes, but unfortunately they were on my external HD which crashed. Ask Richard Willey he has some decent notes.

X for me says “Do not lead a S”. That would be my normal lead, so X asks for something else.

The defence was poor. From where are 9 tricks coming?

(2S) X (P) 3N
(P) 4S (P) 5D
(P) 5H (P) 6H

Not my personal choice, but given the constraints….Of course in a serious game opps would jump to the sky in spades
