It is most certainly NOT a national team competition. Zones are granted the authority to send teams however they wish, and most choose to use national teams, but that is not the requirement.
There have been many many threads on Bridgewinners with this particular whine. Look them up. Look on the WBF page as to how the Bermuda Bowl is organized.
I freely admit Zone 2 is in a weird position. It's only 3 geographic countries, yet has a fairly substantial bridge population.
What you should be doing is quoting noted philosopher Rasheed Wallace and saying “Ball don't lie” after US teams performance this go round.

Well, I can't help if you're just et up with ignorance. The World Team Championships are organized on a zonal basis. The country by country championships, that used to be called the Olympiad, are the ones where each country gets exactly one representative, and the US does indeed get exactly one.
Personally I'd be fine if they go back to one representative per zone, and I guess the host country would get a team as well.

USA1 and USA2 really ought to change their name to Zone2A and Zone2B, since the Bermuda Bowl is a zonal competition. They're representing the zone and not their country. So there's your whining shot down.

I'm laying serious $$ that it's USA2.

Allow me to be a bit of a devil's advocate, his partner's smooth tempo meant that she was sure she *thought* she knew what her bid meant, not that she was sure her bid showed a LR. The main source of Hank's knowledge appears to come from 1) their previous conversations and 2) the opponents 3 passes.

Actually, when I was a junior-ish, I'd pull out a dollar and offer it to them for an unsolicited lesson. Worked pretty well.

How high to raise is indeed the tougher question. I discussed it with Koach Kokish, and he said you're not a weak notrumper until you can comfortably raise 1M to 2 with a balanced 16 count. 17 go ahead and bump to three, but be aware you'll be in contracts the rest of the field won't (though with 14 to 16 being so prevalent today, you'll have more company than you used to.) Of course if you're playing weak NT you're used to being anti-field.

Oh, good, it's early in the game. I'm at my best when I'm recovering from something stupid I've done in the first couple rounds.

Sure. I didn't say it's the only time you'll miss those, just answering Marty's statement that nothing can go wrong. I watched Garner-HWeinstein get blown out of a 5-3 4S game at the Shanghai Bermuda Bowl when the method was first gaining popularity, so I know it's happened.

Are you bragging or lamenting?

The downside is you are vulnerable to missing 5-3 fits when 4th hand blasts 3 hearts (as you should do as often as possible if the opps are playing this method) since they probably don't play support x at the three level.

Well at least the director didn't tell your two-star-retired-general partner that they were lying.

Lucas Leiboda defected before the final of the ‘78 Rosenblum. I don’t think the WBF ever gave him a gold medal. And to add insult to injury, the US sent him to….Columbia, SC. That's just mean. But he doesn't seem bitter and is a very very very good player.

I think there was an Icelandic player who beat that. No details though.

That’s where the recent Workds were and people said it was too isolated with too much walking to the playing sites. But bridge players complain a lot.
