Apologies for the confusion I corrected the hand 60 Secs after posting but I guess there was a delay in appearing. I corrected North to a stiff A from a small one

Against a pair for who I had no love of , my partner opened a weak 2 and with 3 card support and about 4-5points I toyed with 3 directly… Instead I thought I'll bid 2NT (Ogust) as an asking bid, partner bids 3 and I signed off in 3
LHO had 18pts and 4 was cold.

Now the question that 2NT was a psyche given its an asking bid is something else. It was over 5 years ago and they still haven't forgotten!

Apart from that I've never psyched either!

The south hand was Ax AQ Qxx AKxxxx.
West when in with the Q! played a Diamond to partners A but East returned a and South pseudo squeezed North in as West was convinced of 3s in South. I fully see that the lack of the raise convinced West that East had 2- s and therefore South 3+s

Ducking is the right play as Declarer as J10 but I've posted the North/South hands as a play problem

I'm a simple soul 5 rounds of clubs throwing 2 spades and a low diamond then look at discards and likely AK Hearts next if any have been thrown or lead to K D if not

They usually play runout transfers up in the NE so XX-C Diamonds would be tfr to H.
There is an argument with 5 card support that West would bid 3C over 2S…

The reason was medical to be honest - the round before I'd had a load of stomach cramps and felt ropey, my mind wandered as I feeling a little dazed still - turns out I have a stomach ulcer of all things and it was the initial kickoff although I did consider for a few secs 3 or 3 instead to try for a 5-3 fit

2NT is a simple invitation to 3NT and as 1NT is 6-9 then 2NT is 17-18 and should show here a 4432 or 5332 hand which is exactly what I have.

Nah it made 10 tricks so not looking for absolution but the ethics of the situation and how to handle it bothered me.

I totally agree and usually bid at a constant tempo with prepared rebids. It was so out of character that I felt there were UI/AI issues

HI Dan, we play a weak NT so I hadn't upgraded it already. We play 4 card majors so partner wouldn't raise with 3 as well. I could be 4432 shape here as well.
I've been playing with my partner for 17 years and neither of us mastermind or don't trust the other. We're representing our EBU county organisation in the Corwen in UK for the top pairs in the regional competition next month too so I guess I'm fully aware what my bids mean…

We prefer to play in a 5-3 major fit rather than 3NT so I toyed with a fake minor reverse to find out then deciding which one would be best. I also considered if I should upgrade the 17 count too given Teams.
Took about 30 secs which is very unusual for me as I usually have prepared my rebids in advance!

I'm interested in the “if it hestitates - shoot it ” mentality we tend to see?
One thing to consider is given people think this is 2NT+ then you could argue it makes 3NT more appealing

After playing against the weak NT for 15 years, the odds of getting to defend 1NTx is vanishing small as most people can run and you're no better off.

We play X as 13+ takeout (based initially on DONT) and partner can pass with 8+ as well.

We have 2x as Natural overcalls 10-13ish and can handle 5/5+s as well.

Can't remember the last bad board since we played it over X showing 16+

I first found Bridge on a cruiseship and played basic SAYC while onboard (on my Honeymoon as well (and not with my new wife). I then played on BBO for a few months with a gentleman who turned out lived 5 miles from me. I then went to classes locally in the North East of England and currently play with my old teacher…15 years later..
