In retrospect a stupid post on my part. Obviously a 100% vote for 1NT is coming.

I just thought of it because, in this case, 1NT is -800 when LHO had the balance of the points and doubled.

Sorry all BW fans!!!

This problem HAS to be wrong. North would never pass 1.

Whose hand is actually given?

Our problem, locally, is that some players want to play a lot of boards, like 27. Personally I am happier with maybe 21 or 22, as long as everyone plays all the pairs and boards!

Richard - You may be right. I thought I posted it, but the next time I went to BW it was showing as a draft post, so I re-posted it I guess!!!

Has to be all East. Partner is not bidding 4 on AKQJxxx and lunch. All his highs rate to be working, even the K might provide a discard.

We have a local director that will have 12 tables, put out 36 boards and play 8 or 9 rounds, depending on time. When I go to compare with friends it is bad when we only played half of the same boards. With many swing boards and flat boards, the more times boards are played by everyone the better.

Yes about the extreme example. I recall partner giving me a limit raise and while I was deciding between game or looking for a slam, I blanked out and passed.

I think my question obviously distracted him and would tell him as a matter of courtesy. A lot of boards left.

You are right - looking at both N and S it is easy to say one should act, not so easy with each individually.

Please give us a choice, like 7NT if we disagree with the XX.

Actually South was jerking us around with 9542, QJ52, J86 and Q8. Trying to get partner to get off to a hopefully decent lead!!!!

Richard - My partner (I was West) is a good player, but we are a fairly new partnership and a forcing pass here has never been discussed. He did have J108, 43, 952, 109642. It makes 4, if he bids it and I can bring myself to pass

I agree with Peg. I do not ALWAYS bid 2, just when I do not have a really good suit to show. 2 does exclude some hands as Peg said.

I agree with Shawn. My partners all play 1 can be on a 4 bagger to eliminate having to bid 1NT with hands that are clearly NOT NT orientated. Here, 1 - 1 - 2NT - 3NT is easy!!! Even though partner probably does not have 4 spades, I just describe my hand. He could be 4-6 or 4-7 in the majors and now spades are lost.

Before the claim by West, does East KNOW his 10 is not good and his 6 of 's is? That is the question. Top flight players would, but a run of the mill club player might not, particularly late in the evening. 10 maybe, 6, I doubt it.

I agree with Jeff. We cannot nit-pick over every little thing, particularly in a friendly little local game. Now if RHO was someone I really did not care for………

A good player and friend told me that playing this as a weak Canape hand with, say 4-1-2-6 distribution with 5-10 HCP was best. How else to get the 's mentioned. cannot use FSF certainly.

Steve - I agree totally. If my partner has a bid available and does not make it, I assume he does not have that type of hand and base further calls on that fact.

Jeff - you are right about the opponents methods and I seriously considered adding the fault was N-S's but did not think that was an option.
