7 feels like cheap insurance, but I've been wrong before.

This is a nothing burger. You're right in saying that the original explainer should have been more forthcoming - aka artificial game-force. But there's no forget involved - they've said “forcing”
The experienced pair hasn't forgotten how to play XYZ

The other partner didn't alert 2H in an effort to wake pd up. They were asked to explain the bid and they gave full disclosure.

We get this all the time when we get asked about specific bids in our strong club sequences - aka 1C! 1H! 1N(17-19) 2C! 2D! 3H!

-Question from opponent - “Was 2D game forcing?”
-Answer: We're in a game-forcing auction

Exactly :) Practice as if you both remember system and learn from the forgets…

C'mon man - the over/under needs to be a fraction. And I refuse to bet anything but the over on a statistic that literally anyone with an account can increase

Honestly, I feel relief. I am sad I won't be able to go and see old friends. I am sad it affects the livelihood of many people - both bridge pros and the people running the tournament, hotel staff etc. But I've been conflicted about going for the last week.

The upcoming NAOP was probably one of my best chances in my life to win an open ACBL championship just based on the limited number of competition.

But the social irresponsibility of attending such an obvious vector for virus spread in the middle of a pandemic was gnawing on my conscience.

Cancelling this tournament frees me of the angst about choosing whether to go or not. The moral conundrum has been resolved. I am not happy, but I am relieved.

I was planning on going to Columbus.
I'm not as fond of online bridge - not just because I'm not fond of bots, but I miss the social aspects of the game.
I also find I don't concentrate as well when I'm not at the table.

I won't say I'll never play this event, but I probably won't be playing this particular robo-individual

Philip - I knew it was a poor bid when I made it in your poll - but it's probably the bid I make at the table :)

I like 4S a lot. Can easily see 7S being the right contract.

I’d be wary of third seat preempts denying 13 points

Honestly, it's easier to list the states that don't have Coronavirus cases than do at this point. It's everywhere at this point.

good article

You mention drawing trump on the top of page 3 - but we're in 3N
Or at least, that's what the auction shows

Yesterday I played the good old-fashioned 2-2. I'm not sure the declarer improvement part worked.
