Thank you for the input.

I passed at the table and it makes on the normal spade lead

Pd has
kjtx
8xx
9x
qtxx

And declarer

x
KJT9xx
Jx
K9xx

If John Adams's double gets pd to lead a diamond you can beat 4HX :) -

Roland. It's more likely 4C is a slam try agreeing hearts than spades.
But 4D is a clear logical alternative, regardless

To be fair opposite a red on white 3C overcall, 6C is a reasonable call with that hand

Any values pd has will be working and all of lho's will be slotted with the possible exception of the K

“I double YOU”

John - what you don't seem to be getting is that it wasn't intentional cheating. It was all done subconsciously. You can have lots of fun social bridge while using bidding boxes. But playing without them actually takes away from the social element, because in order to “not cheat” you need to speak in a robotic monotone when you bid.

You really want opps to ask about specific bids in the auction. Sure the right thing to ask is “Explain the auction” but it's very simple to state, “we had an ace-asking auction. Pd showed 2 with the queen.” Before lho makes their opening lead.

In poker, it's good practice to not look at your cards until it's your turn to act. No matter how good your poker face, you'll always give away some info.

West has the source of tricks and a a likely slotted KC if pd doesn't have it.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for:
Kxx
Qxx
Kx
Kxxxx

Won't you go down if LHO is 1-2 in the majors then (with a stiff spade) The old - the best way to get my ruff is by leading trump - coup?

Don't really want to give pd the impression I have a doubleton heart.

If north leads a diamond, are we hopping?
If not south can switch to spades and then they get to 5 before we get to 9.

I realize east is a limited opener, but the quality of the west club suit suggests bidding game opposite even a precision opener

Are you playing double-barreled over this - or is it 4-way etc.

We're all looking at j98 of hearts saying pd should have played the 9. But to east, the 8 looks like a pretty high spot

When west leads the stiff heart against 6m, we have a fair bit of work to do.
Also very hard to bid with such a balanced north hand opposite an opener that can't make a takeout double for want of spades. Be happy just to make 3N
