Even if pd has the AS a red king and a club void, to make seven, you're relying on a red suit finesse for the king you don't have into the overcaller.

I don't think there's really any scientific way to find grand. Pre-empts work…

I loved what the Norwegians did. Regardless of their bid, they wrote down exactly what it meant in relatively clear handwriting. Of course, otherwise their auctions would have been completely incomprehensible :)

What, don't most people just pay high from doubletons?

I think the TS is a big card stopping that.

Totally agree. Either I was planning on rebidding 2d over the inevitable 1S that partner was bidding or I should have opened 1D.
I think I might prefer 1N to 1C

7D isn't that great of a contract on a spade lead…

In my book, this hand is worth 17 points.
The strong club response was obviously tongue-in-cheek. But whatever method you have of bidding a balanced 17 count is the one I would use.

I'm playing a strong club system right? 1C - 1x - 1N describes my hand

Have fun Leo. Make sure you get to some non-bridge sites while you're in town :).

I too like 2D waiting. The strong hand is usually strong balanced or strong single-suited. Let CHO show their hand. But I've never seen the need for a second/double-negative.

I'm a simple man. I just lump that hand with my NT range bids and we use puppet to find our 5-card suits.

Beware the barking dog on the first one against Precision players. You might make the 10-card inference only to find out RHO bid on a balanced 3-card raise with 14 points.

I am 100% with Lynn here. I almost didn't answer based on the blame-casting which is counter-productive.

I doubt lebensohl would be on. Systems are usually on over 2C. X is usually stayman. If you have better-minor stayman available for you, that's what I would have trotted out over 2C

This is more important than the opp's style. My pd and I play aggressive pre-balances (OBAR) bids over 1M-2M. I also join the chorus of why didn't I bid 3D over 2N - even if it's just to get the right lead on the table if pd has q's to lead away from…
