+200 vs +620
Good times.

This hand was a slight exception.
There's a _lot_ to be said for _first in_ vigorish.

That said, 1S 4H puts buckets of pressure on LHO to support spades if (s)he's got spade support

Well - given most of my pd's concept of bad, 5C was pretty auto on this board :)

I dunno. If you're not doubling and bidding spades, your standards may be too high. It's also possible this hand may belong in hearts if your pd makes a free heart bid. Of course, there are some pretty good players bidding 1S, so I'll wait and see why I'm wrong :)

I think you mean assess :) One of the funnier typos I've seen in a while. (I try not to play conventions based on my pd's general level of grouchiness)

I would consider 3D asking for the lead - but double isn't on the table. Pd couldn't bid 1S or 2S over 1H - why would we try and bring spades into the picture?

Mike - given your pd has 5h and at least an opening hand, hearts rates to be the better game as well as the better slam if it's there. I don't think your values are soft at all. They all appear to be working.
It's possible 3N might make while 4H goes down, but it's anti-percentage.

3N plays pretty poorly on the hand where you bid 4S over 1H-2C-2H.
The opps can take the first 9 tricks and are likely to get 8 even if they don't get off to double-dummy defense.

Another lesson in this set is if you're going to sack in a minor and have already bid one, 4N showing both minors (with a preference towards the first) is a better bid than unilaterally sacking in your longer minor.

Kenneth - Yes, this is a result of the change of the bidding poll format. I mentioned it as a downside in the thread that asked for feedback. Maybe on the next upgrade, they'll add the ability to add a descriptive title.

Henry - are you thinking of the last quarter of the Spingold against Monaco where they were shut out of the imps column?

Of course, keycard in this sequence would be 4S kickback :) so you'd be in more trouble :)

Then, after it is passed out, but before the lead, you explain to the opponents what your bids meant.

But should you get so lucky as to get doubled, you can pull to 5H.

I agree - 2S isn't the “chicken bid”. 3C is the chicken bid

Would double be responsive?

Exactly. My partner and I have bid +so+ many hands where we've forgotten our agreements. They almost always end in hopeless slams.

It's in orange (which means alert) and if you hover the mouse over the call, it shows it as a three card spade raise. (very standard in much of the States).
I take this call as jamming, because there are two suits to cue-bid available if I want to make a stronger call.

I find the higher the contract, the worse KQx is as a lead.
As a matter of fact, I hate the lead. AKx, I'm sold. QJx I'm sold. JTx, count me in. But KQx <shudder>
