In these distributions, it rarely gets wrong-sided. But it is possible
Then again, usually you don't find No-Trump when both you and your pd have 2 voids.:)

RHO opens a diamond and fails to double 2D or 3S, and you reach 4H.
The lead is the 5C.

I love columns like this. When I first saw the hand, I thought it was going to be the shameful waste of the heart deuce, but the critical 4 of spades is just as good :)

Alan - Both passes over 2S seem cowardly. If I'd assign the blame 60-40 to West

Michael - Good article.

I was watching the other table and then I saw 4S down 1, I was curious as to what happened.

When I looked at the above problem, I was curious whether leading a spade back to hand and another heart up to dummy was considered? Did East play the T or 9 on the first trump (from T9x) to give declarer the chance to pick up A9xx onsides?
Either way, nice catch of the spots…

On the hesitation hand, west needs to either push to 5C or hit it. Either would be reasonable. If you're going to tank for a long time, you should take action.

Of course, this leads to the problem scenario of when you believe your pd _shouldn't_ make another call. How do you penalize deliberate hesitation to avoid having your pd make a speculative call.

These are great articles. For me it's especially the spot card signalling that's a revelation.

Henry - Didn't Bathurst also go to Ghent in 95 for the WJPairs?
