I *HATE* the way that hands are displayed during play. It's difficult to determine which hand has played. I've more than once sat for several seconds before figuring out that RHO had played, not LHO or pard. Very confusing. And private messages are clunky compared to the old Flash version. All in all the UX is disappointing.

I always thought it was interesting that Barry Crane used a traditional strong 2D bid in his system. But what worked for Barry, worked for Barry.

I hope that Carol will consult with an attorney experienced with age discrimination. “Too old, too much salary” is not an excuse for termination.

Well, when you drop $2 million here, $600K there and another $500K on a legal settlement, you have to cut back somewhere. Oops, almost forgot paying out two years salary for firing the CEO without cause.

If you're up for a thrill, the VooDoo Zip Line at the top of the Rio Hotel was a hoot. Saw Penn and Teller there (got invited on stage for a trick) and topped off the evening with the ride from 10 stories or so. Got the blood pumping. Try this coupon. https://www.groupon.com/deals/voodoo-zipline-experience-16?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=us_dt_sea_ggl_txt_ttt_sr_cbp_ch1_nbr_k*rio%20zipline%20experience_m*b_d*las-vegas-RTC-Root_g*RTC-voodoo-zipline-experience-16-BROAD_c*341727809716_ap*1t2_t*kwd-603956052707&loc_physical_ms=9032067&loc_interest_ms=9030790&template=ETA1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIubTrk9mU4gIVGLvsCh2xDAE6EAAYAiAAEgLotfD_BwE
BTW, I have no affiliation other than I lived to tell the tale.

Really, ACBL BOD, really? This is a ridiculous excuse to fire someone.

Don M. In advertising/marketing we spend a lot of time and angst writing what is called a “Creative Brief.” It usually includes the answers to these questions. “Why are we advertising?” “Who are we talking to?” (Include everything you know about them, demographics, psychographics, etc.) “What do they think about our product now?” “What do we want them to think” “Why should they believe us?” (Sometimes called Permission to Believe, or just “Proof”.)“What is the SINGLE most important idea we need to communicate to them?” “Where do we reach them?”

I have a feeling that someone at some time went through that exercise with the ACBL, but it went nowhere when presented to the Board of 25 know-everythings.

“To me, a convicted cheater with any redeeming qualities at all would be so shamed that he would bar himself for life.” Well said, Karen.

This is true. The equivalent of press releases on a Friday before a holiday. The objective is to bury the truth.

Simon, very funny as to the inflections. But that is good acting – making it real. If I were on set as a consultant I would have done exactly the same. However, in real life, I was always amused/infuriated by “one heart”, “a heart,' ”I'll bid hearts“ etc. Reminds me of the old saw, ”Can I have a review with all of the original inflections?"

George Burns. I regret that I didn't ask for a game when I did a series of commercials with him in the 80s.

Randy, I have no disagreement with what you say. It would be a herculean undertaking that wouldn't satisfy everyone. My point is that decisions like the software issues, Hawaiian junket, tolerance of unethical pairs, the pursuit of Olympic status and other stumbles is that the league may self-destruct and cause a new, perhaps better, organization to arise.

Perhaps we should take a cue from those who say that government should be starved to the point that you can drown it in the bathtub. If the ACBL fails because of decisions like funding these BoD junkets (and going to venues where it can't make a profit) it may simply achieve the goal of replacing the league with an organization that is smarter, better, and customer-focused more quickly.

Yes, the Internet and Air BnB have contributed to the problem, but could the root cause be the greedy BoD? Perhaps, like the “Names” at Lloyd's of London they need to reach into their own pockets to make up any shortfall.
