Well played by Meike. About her book on bridge: isnt kxxxxx xxx xxx x a clear double? If you double partner doesnt give away the position of the Q with a spadelead. Still, if declarer knows that east knows.. etc. , etc….

Didn't know that was possible. Next time I certainly will.

This post more or less summarizes the problem discussed elsewhere. If a group of players (in this case good, young players) think it's normal to open 1NT with 0 counts white vs red in 3rd position, pds (who belong to the same group) will anticipate better than opponents who are not familiar with these openingbIds. Partners will anticipate better because they have more info available and they will be suspicious when they see the 3rd hand white/red openingbid. It's too easy to say that they anticipate better because they are better bridgeplayers. If you know that 1NT is f.e. 15-17 or a third hand psych opponent should know this too. All three opponents lost control so at least one of them didn't know what happened until the end of the board.
The argument that 1NT was opened in irregular partnerships doesn't change much. I think the players mentioned knew very well from eachother that pd was able to psych in 3rd position.
Psyches are part of the game and I don't know how to deal with situations like this.
Just want to say that this story is more than a good laugh.

Nobody knows who would have won if the score after round 7 had been correct. Dynamics are different if you are trying to close the gap to the first place instead of defending the first place.
It's a pitty, but there is no “right thing to do”.

Are kibitzers allowed when Russia and England play each other?

My best guess 1) Poland 2/3/4 (random order) England, Netherlands, France.

Who cares. I still like “Bridge with the Blue team” and the way 5C was or wasn't made……

Probably not last years best leadproblem. Pd had KJxxx of diamonds. A diamondlead was necessary to beat the contract. I wondered if people would try the diamond ace at trick one to keep options open.

If you have plans to produce something in Holywood please realize that the movie will only be suitable for adults. It will be too much for children that some characters get cruelly eliminated by a Wizard of Oz lookalike…..

I don't see two brothers in spirit. I see one natural born cheater (F) and S who looks really uncomfortable and embarrassed. If you look at it it's very well possible that he was wondering how thing got this far. Let's hope that some cheaters will tell the public what made their partnerships cheat. There must be a first suggestion and the pd must accept. From there on things probably become worse and worse.
If it all starts with a first suggestion there must be a lot of partners who told there pds they are crazy. I never heard such a story. If the first cheat suggestion leads to an agreement it probably still takes a lot of time before your pdship cheats XXL. It would be interesting to hear from the known pairs if this is really true, because if that's the case there are definitely some toppairs in between the first suggestion / agreement and cheating XXL.

Great 2 you-tube minutes btw.

Leslie, I liked Michals post. Not because he has a contrary view. I don't know what his view is and he doesn't mention it in the post I liked. I agree with him about the fact that it's amazing that some people claim to know 100% what''s right where it' all about gut feeling.

Or, as a wise man once said:

“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.” - Bertrand Russell

Why does everybody think that Dean wants to get back? Maybe he would like to discuss the double BW and members standards, but I can't imagine he s looking forward to post regular again and be sure that a lot of people judge if his posts are acceptable or not all the time.

You are absoluteley right Gabor! The polish players deserve admiration (like a lot of other players do). Too many childish reactions here.
This doesn't mean that all discussions should stop, but we have different topics for it.

“Anyway as many know this system is horribly flawed because all experts you find usually know the full hand already. And Human brain is incapable of ignoring known facts at subconcious level.”

I think what Gonzalo posted is very true. If you know about a board it's impossible to be objective. The terrible thing is that we all (including myself of course) like to think we are the exception and are able to think as we would without the knowledge we already have about a situation. For the most important matches it might be wise to select experts which don't watch the match and can be consulted (no names, only facts) if the TD needs help.

There are too many stories that can be told about this tournament (it's sad, but most of them are not about the games played), but I hope this one gets the attention it deserves. The reaction in the daily bulletin was not what I expected. Analyzing what exactly happened might lead to better procedures in the future. Chris Gibsons suggestion, for example, is definitely something to think about.

He finished that last sentence with “that's here”. So no other European pairs in Chennai.

In this interview he said he might have some evidence against the 5th pair (still playing in Chennai).

I also didn t see much in the video. Got the tip to look at the distance between the biddingcards played by BZ. I ll look again. There are also other BZ Opatja videos on you-tube. If there is a clear code it must be possible to find it, explain it and convince other people. I am not convinced yet. It might change.
