Awesome finish. Congratulations. Was that the highest score ever in a Platinum Pairs final round?

I am outraged by this. What does it take to move this to another venue? Is money needed? I will volunteer to make the first contribution. How about if all the American teams withdraw and offer to contribute the difference in airfare to Bali and airfare to the new location (someplace closer) to the event? Or even half that amount. I know that for anyone planning to travel business class, the difference will be thousands of dollars.

We need all the teams in the US, open, women's, seniors, to refuse to go. Maybe our Canadian friends will join the protest. Add the Israeli's and a couple teams from Europe and we've destroyed the event in Bali. It's time to stand up and be counted: let's show some solidarity in response to this outrageous act.

George, I know you're in Atlanta (and I'm not anymore), but this is the time for the USBF to make its voice heard. I'm sure there is lots of bridge politics involved, but I assure you there will be tons of support here for strong action.

Feel free to call on me to help in any way.

I bid 7C to give partner a choice between 7D and 7NT. I think he'll know to value hearts. If he thinks I'm offering a choice between 7D and 7H, that's ok, I'll bid 7NT over 7H.

Yes, I apologize if i gave the impression I was criticizing Brad's line. I was only thinking what i would play if i had the inference of a bad break from the bidding.

I plan to bid diamonds at my next opportunity, so partner will play me for either 5134, 5125 or 6124. I need him to evaluate his hand and jumping to 4 just takes away too much room.

I play LHO for Kx(xxx) of Diamonds and 4 clubs or QJ10(x) of clubs. So I win the club K, enter hand with the heart Q, finesse the heart J if necessary, then back to hand in clubs to finesse the diamond. On the run of the hearts, hope to squeeze West out of his spades so I can endplay him with the club to lead away from the diamond King (or guess if he has stiffed it).

Mike, I think Robinson's 4S was not a cue bid but RKC and 5H showed 2 plus the Q.

So, what was the ful layout? Could Jeff have made the hand after not finessing in Spades?

I was wondering if it was intentional. Since you thought Brad could easily have 7 hearts on this auction, it makes even more sense. Anyway, it was a great coup combined with lovely technique by Brad. Well done by both of you and congrats again.

Only one more thing: please don't do it against me, it would give me nightmares!

Congratulations. The Diamond team clearly played better than any other in the event and deserved to win. Btw, does anyone know why Fred bid 5? It looks like he's confirming all the Key Cards and the Queen of Trump and asking for Kings. When Brad showed him the spade King (with 5NT) did he forget that his earlier answer denied the heart Queen?

Congratulations. Not only did they win, but they won by one of the largest margins in recent history. After all the wins at the Cavendish Invitational and a second place in this event last time, it's no great surprise that they came out on top. They clearly outpaced the field, playing well to exceptionally well every set. Well done.

Excellent analysis. One point: if Moss were 4432, which makes Sontag's line correct, then Gitelman would have balanced with 1nt with AK10xxx of clubs. Isn't that even less likely?

Very exciting.

I heard that the Meltzer-Strul match came down to a game swing on the final board. Can someone provide the particulars?

It's impossible to know what's going on without this. And, we can already see that several matches might be upsets.

In the three-way, do they use the best win/loss record and use total imps if all three are 1-1?
