Even votes between 5 and 6? Can't understand this. Partner bid 4 red vs white. If he holds AK A in minors, 6 and the very likely void we are cold for 7. I chose 6 and felt this like an underbid

Dbl. Just want to hear some bid in a major. And even better feeling if partner passes.

Playing 4 as forcing in our system, I will try 5, with the obvious downside that I might be off 3 aces so it's clearly not a great bid. If 4 is nf (= bid 2 first with a slammish hand for clubs) this looks like the right technical bid - unsuitable values for 3N and game try in 5, partner accepting with aces and club honors (and a stiff spade, maybe) and declining with wasted values in the reds. This is, of course, a very specific (and therefore, unlikely) situation.

On the actual deal colors are reversed (you are vul against not)

4nt looks fine - partner will understand that the key factor for slam is the quality of his spades. And of course he will bid 6 and not 6nt if he can't see a possible recovery against a bad spade break opposite the typical 15(34) pattern suggested by the bidding.

No clear-cut choice among really ugly leads, every lead may be the only one that blows it. My ratings :
2 or8 : 5/10. Hoping to not blow a trick and collect 4 tricks on passive defense
8 : 5/10. Looks more dangerous but might strike gold if partner has an honor
A : 2/10. Even more dangerous and little upside, finding partner with shortness is a longshot and even if it's the case he might well ruff a loser with a natural trump trick.

The expectancy of 3 is negative at these colors. With an empty 6 card suit, I really risk going for -800 or -1100 and the potential damage to the opps bidding when they should declare does not compensate this. Simulations made by my partner tend to say that a 3 level opening vulnerable vs not should show a 7+ card suit and 7 playing tricks. The underlying concept is : vul vs not, focus on finding your own contract, not on preempting or sacrificing.

Double is perfectly descriptive - extra offensive values and no clear direction. Slam might make but might also be doomed especially in the likely case when partner also has a stiff , so I'm not willing to commit to it with 5nt. If partner removes that, he is sure to land on a good contract.

1, wait and see. I need to know what other players have to say in order to choose my direction - 3nt or 5/6/7. 5 is perfectly descriptive and might buy the contract when opps have a better score available in 5M, but might also be off 3 top tricks in the blacks with 3nt cold. And I don't open 2 with only 1 defensive trick.

5nt pick a slam. This is basically a guess, and opps activity at these colors make me optimistic about finding the right cards in partner's hand. Otoh I'm clearly not happy collecting 300 in 4x

Black suit leads are horrible,K is bad, so I pick up 7 as least of evils.

I strongly advise running a simulation for this kind of problem. A spade is clearcut at imps but at MPs it runs a high risk to give away a trick to declarer's K or Q, so what ? I would bet that :
- and leads are close in the long run in MP scoring
- in the majority of the cases there is a right one and a wrong one, but finding out is guesswork
- lead J if you want to stay with most of the field and score near average, x otherwise

This hand is 5422 and this is very, very different from 5332. The 4th round of is almost surely a winning trick (ruffed by partner). If partner has short diamonds 4 is almost always cold even on minimal HCP count. There is no way I stay short of a vulnerable game at imps under these conditions. I would bid 3 with 5332 (4th traded for a small or ).

Sure enough, there are good cases for leading a high heart, or a deceptive 3, or even a spade, but I don't see a clear reason to not go for my normal lead.

Partner might have gambled a pass at these colors if he held a diamond stack. So I like more my chances in another game than 3NT, and my shape is perfect for a 4 COG.

+1
Ugly 13 does qualify just like a fair 12.

45m22 is a no-brainer 1m opening for me whatever the strength, unless on very few extreme hands.

Interesting. My deciding factor is that I may sometimes consider blank 5 card suits as 4 card ones, so 1 it is. Naturally on this extreme hand the lead directing factor is a bonus.
