about me

Used to play a lot in the seventies. Retired to raise a family. Never lost love for game though. Now play on BBO and at two NABCs a year (spring and summer). Have a very solid partnership with my longtime partner, Randy Thompson. Place in NABC events often. Goal of winning one finally fulfilled -- won the 2013 Bruce LMs in Atlanta.

Bridge Information

Favorite Bridge Memory
Against Ron Anderson and Kathy Wei, as a young new player, partner opened a vul against nv weak NT and with 3 count 3334 I transferred to hearts; we went -400 against their 430 when neither opp with 12/13 hcp balanced could find a bid.
Bridge Accomplishments
Won 2013 Bruce LIfe Masters in Atlanta; 9th in NABC Imp Pairs in Toronto; 25th in World Imp Pairs in Philadelphia; numerous other NABC overalls.

Anyone have any solid information on the lack of any water in many (all?) rooms at the Sheraton this morning. All I got from guest services was they are working on it.
High Level Reverses
Since 2D is forcing and what you easily can bid with any hand with diamonds, we play the unnecessary jump as a splinter in support of clubs.
Effect of the Recent ACBL Rules about opening 1NT with a singleton
Am I any freer in third seat? Maybe I want to open an ACBL-defined "unbalanced" weak 1NT in third seat because I think it will have a preemptive effect. Call it a psych or whatever you want. Doesn't anything go in third seat?
What should 3NT mean in this sequence?
With a 2N overcall, I make it. Can easily find a 5-3 heart game over it when I have three hearts. So this must be more than a 2N overcall with three hearts. I voted other because it is not more than a 3N overcall (for which I would have ...
How to bid slam on this hand?
We use 4C as a single-suited heart slam try. Partner bids 4D with a control rich hand or 4H without one. This leaves us better placed.
Is it an attitude or count signal?
Second highest, not second lowest.
Boyd-Robinson Win North American Pairs
Congrats, guys!
The Bridge World
Number one change -- going to cost and subscriber base -- has got to be going electronic. Long term, as good as it is, I can only see this mag surviving as an online only product. Only the aging, declining bridge player population could possibly want to pay for the slick, expensive ...
Should all ACBL duplicate boards used at NABCs have vulnerability inserts placed in the board pockets?
I voted no, but only because I don't see why boards with good markings can't be had. Get rid of the boards that one must struggle to decipher.
Do experts use Losing Trick Count ?
I use it frequently for evaluating close decisions. Should I open a 10-11 hcp hand? I like to have only seven losers for that. Should I make a limit raise that is close? I like to have only 8 losers. Conversely, if I have only 7 losers, I am probably ...
