about me

I stopped playing for a few weeks to solve an ancient puzzle but it took a little bit longer, 22 years.  Turned out to be more difficult than I thought but I kept going until I got it. BTW, anyone want to play Meckwell with me on BBO?

Bridge Information

Favorite Bridge Memory
Playing 2 cent bridge in the early 70's with Billy Barrett and Lou Bluhm. Billy won the 1930 Reisinger on a team with Ely Culbertson. They beat Waldemar von Zedtwitz, P. Hal Sims, Dorothy Rice Sims, and Mary Clement. Billy liked to psych at money bridge. "If it goes pass, pass to you," Billy said the first time I played with him, "I want you to bid." "But Billy," I objected, "What if I don't have anything?" "All the more reason to bid," he said. "And if it goes pass, pass to me, I'm going to do the same, I'm going to bid, so I don't want you to go leaping and jumping in the auction." Billy introduced psyching to high level tournament bridge and he also introduced it to me.

I just won a fast pairs at the Chicago Nationals 2015 ;)

Christ on a cracker probably references the holy communion wafer in the Roman and Anglican Catholic churches, in which the words "this is my body, take, eat," meaning the body of Jesus, is spoken by the priest who puts the wafer/cracker on your tongue, so yea, Christ on a ...
USA2 wins d'Orsi Seniors Trophy
Offenses enough to go around because there just has to be less profiling wording to describe the acbl objection process than by saying she "pounded her high heel on the bench." It's offensive in every direction not the least of which is the evocation of a vision of Krushchev ...
USA2 wins d'Orsi Seniors Trophy
A victory that disproves the maxim that nice guys finish last!
Michael Seamon (1960-2017)
I feel I have to say more but in the beginning I was so saddened by the news that I couldn't even think what to say. I loved Michael from way back when, when he was in his late teens. He was my favorite rubber bridge partner in the ...
Michael Seamon (1960-2017)
Michael was an enlightened bridge philosophy.
Of all the gin joints
Diss this. I would have bid 6 clubs from the club diamond hand instead of dbl and that way I have no one to blame but me. And I can take it :)
Decisions of the Appeals & Charges Committee, November 2016
The assumption by some people commenting in this thread is that the teams that get to keep the titles are happy about it but I doubt that's the case. I'm pretty sure the team that didn't lose all the titles they vacated wishes they would, since they ...
Meckwell Win Blue Ribbon Pairs
How hard can it be to update or differentiate some old rule that was written just to stop Barry Crane from winning extra masterpoints by playing on two different Sunday Swiss teams at the same time in two different states with different time zones?
Meckwell Win Blue Ribbon Pairs
You could get the dude's name spelled right (Allan), even in your rush to punish the drop ins with no c/o, not even a measly one, for the sin of dropping in.
Meckwell Win Blue Ribbon Pairs
Well, that's chintzy and so not right.
