Things I do to alleviate the insanity of running an ACBL affiliated bridge club.
at the beginning of the last round...'please bring your seats and bid boxes to their full upright position and extinguish all whining materials....'
Fast Spingold
12 boards= 80m...think this is a novel idea...self selecting as well, as few turtles would voluntarily sign up for this event.
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
I believe that if LP penalties were given to the habitual turtles, most would still return to play the next day. If they don't, so what? The future games will run on time.
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
I've encountered that crapola a couple of times...I find it offensive beyond belief, that BOD members act and believe they are above the law....
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
I thought not giving in the GR was a mistake for 2 reasons: (1) they are getting gold points even for playing in an incredibly weak field and (b) when they finally win their 751st point, they will have to 'play up' in a game where, in theory, they will ...
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
the one event that is totally immune from LP penalties is the Gold Rush games...(pairs usually)...we had explicit instructions not to give LP penalties!! I thought this policy nothing short of idiotic...because the ACBL is handing out gold points by the carload to these players; my view ...
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
I recently resigned from the ACBL as a TD ..2 or 3 years ago, when directing at NABCs, I was told more than once by senior TDs that 'our job is not to penalize, but to keep the game moving..'...and I've had LP penalties overturned by whining turtles ...
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
how about 'glacial' [play] recognition software??
What Are We Going To Do About Slow Play?
part of the problem is that the ACBL says one thing, does another (nothing)..they discourage TDs from actually imposing late play penalties! ALl this approach does is make the slow pokes realize that no downside exists to dawdle....Chris's approach works fairly well here locally...once players see ...
How much extra is required for "seriousness"?
that's about where I draw the line...looking at controls, fitting cards, etc, rather than a specific quantity of points...suit 'stuffing' can be critical at times..main point: add judgment and stir!
