But one thing - I don't think that many players do agree with a direct double of 3Hearts by N being for penalty: the doubler is under the overcaller....But maybe I am wrong...
It is clear, that failure to support partner's diamonds on the first round (for whatever reason-that's not the heart of this discussion), made subsequent bidding difficult.
Nevertheless - and independent of the South Hand shown - may I have your opinion of what a double by South in this situation ...
Yes, that is what we all like to do: only double when it is winning action for our side.
But can you be more precise with what kind of hands you double ?

If I understand your position: a double by south would show some hearts values and asks partner's opinion; on a more or less regular opening hand, he would pass. Did I get that right ?
