I mostly agree Phil and think that our common ground is "Are you kidding me? Quit whining and play bridge". Winning is not as much fun if you feel that by omission your opps have been under-informed. We want the newbies protected and the bridge lawyers squelched.

OK, I'm going to open a kettle of worms! I don't think bids that "ask" should have anything more than an announcement "Asking" to clarify that they are artificial. Bids that "tell" should be alerted if they promise fewer than 3 cards in the suit. I don't ...

Poor bids and plays are NOT part of the technical superiority question. If one person knows how (and does) run a backwash squeeze to make the contract and the other one does not, that is superior technical ability. Typically poor plays/bids are a result of fatigue (physical/mental/emotional ...
Which type of players would you rather have for teammates?
I don't think it's possible to win a team championship anymore on pure technical superiority. Sure, you must be technically sound but the big swings are usually the result of something like an intuitive lead or a tactical action.
Which type of players would you rather have for teammates?
I think of it more like being in a fight in a dark alley - who do you want to have your back?
