Perhaps a definition of sportsmanship is in order (from Merriam Webster dictionary): "conduct (as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport". The examples Jeff presented definitely fit. There is no mention of rules etc.
