about me

Began playing in 1978 - first rubber bridge with my partner's parents, duplicate later. We earned almost 20 MP then broke up after a year or two, and I left the game. Started up again in 2013 and had to relearn bidding pretty much as a beginner - it had changed so drastically from the game I knew. Back in those days, I knew nothing about the play of the hand, and my bidding was strictly kitchen bridge.

Discovering BBO was the best thing ever. I'm very active there, but I also play F2F several times a week.

The elephant avatar is my foster daughter, Malkia, who lives in Kenya. http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org

Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
For those who may have forgotten: Myrtle Evans' claim to fame was that she knew Lee Harvey Oswald personally, and gave testimony to the President's Commission in the investigation into JFK's assassination. It was a very long deposition. Apparently she was also a clever bridge player, which I ...

I discovered another thread exactly like this one, from almost 2 years ago. See the stories at http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/your-favorite-funny-bridge-story/
Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
I think my rubber bridge club set some kind of record last Wednesday. There was only one table, and it took us 2-1/2 hours to complete the only rubber of the night. First we won a game, then they won a game, then we bid and made 3D, then ...
Gerald Koonce's bidding problem: KJxxx --- AQJxx KJx

Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
During a visit with his brother in NC last week, my partner Steve goes to the Charlotte Halloween Regional to get in a bit of bridge. He meets a lady at the partnership desk, and they agree to play together. LHO deals and passes Partner 1S RHO passes Steve's ...

Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
This happened at an NLM tournament. I'm playing with Jim, a new partner I met on BBO. Red vs. White. East deals. I'm South with AJxxx in clubs and AKQx in spades. The bidding goes P - 1C - 1D - P, then P - 1S - 2D - P, and finally P - 3C ...

Seen in a BBO profile: "What are your skills?" "Declarer play and defense." "No, I mean what jobs are you good at?" "Establishing side suits for discards and manufacturing entries." "Related to the job you applied for, if you would not mind." "What was the contract?" "There is no contract ...
