about me

Began playing in 1978 - first rubber bridge with my partner's parents, duplicate later. We earned almost 20 MP then broke up after a year or two, and I left the game. Started up again in 2013 and had to relearn bidding pretty much as a beginner - it had changed so drastically from the game I knew. Back in those days, I knew nothing about the play of the hand, and my bidding was strictly kitchen bridge.

Discovering BBO was the best thing ever. I'm very active there, but I also play F2F several times a week.

The elephant avatar is my foster daughter, Malkia, who lives in Kenya. http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org

Favorite Bridge Memory
Getting a post-game email from an expert partner complimenting me on making several "impossible" contracts, and claiming sole responsibility for a number of bad boards.
Bridge Accomplishments
Having my haiku published in ACBL Bulletin.
Regular Bridge Partners
Nobody wants to put up with my puns. My most frequent partner is nearly deaf, and therefore thankfully immune.

And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
David Levin: I'm so sorry, of course you are right. My disclaimer was woefully inadequate, thank you for pointing that out, and for the opportunity to set a few things straight. I suggest the following remedy: Disclaimer: this article is meant in good fun. The author accepts no responsibility ...
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
Stiff queen? We didn't play this board anyway, I couldn't find the hand where he messed up the lead.
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Ken. I understand how you might get the impression that I was just being cruel and mocking, but I assure you that is not the case. And I appreciate your concern for my ex-pard's feelings, but you can relax: they aren't in any ...
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
Bwahahahahahahahah! He replies that the lessons were worthless, and if she doesn't give up her claim, he'll get my foster elephant Malkia to come to her table and sit on her. Malkia is an excellent player. Her best contract is one no trunk.
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
Apologies for trying to make you laugh. In my next article, I will strive to get all my facts straight even if the story comes out boring. Seriously, would 2 have been such a horrible call? I've often read, if you must lie about a suit, make sure ...
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
Yes and no. After my game bid, East figured that was all and made a move to scoop up his bidding cards. I don't remember when and what West and I did -- by then partner had chimed in that he wasn't done. I figured it made a better ...
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
First, I'm inventing the auction out of whole cloth; as I said, this might not even be the right board. I grabbed it because it had enough of the elements as I recall them -- I wrote this late last night and wanted to finish the story. I have no ...
And I Wanted To ..... (Partner Revenge Fantasies)
He is a nice guy (and very funny). And I hope all of us care what our fellow players think of us. I don't see how it follows that he made so many egregious errors all in one day because he felt under pressure from me. Were you there ...
Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
For those who may have forgotten: Myrtle Evans' claim to fame was that she knew Lee Harvey Oswald personally, and gave testimony to the President's Commission in the investigation into JFK's assassination. It was a very long deposition. Apparently she was also a clever bridge player, which I ...
Humorous Bridge Happenings You’ve Experienced
To describe a hand with only 17 HCP that should still be opened 2C, such as: x AKQxxx AKJxxx --- Wouldn't You Be Aghast, If Partner Passed?
