(1)-X-(2)-?

We have worked out several situations lately, where we now use transfers in various competitive sequences.

But yesterday, we encountered this not-very-unusual situation, where we had not decided anything yet, and I'm not sure what's best:

  (1)-X-(2)-?

What should advancer's bids -- particularly X and 2NT -- show here?

There are a several hand-types, advancer might want to distinguish, examples:

  • 4+s with either competitive or invitational strength
  • Competitive with both minors, or only one minor.
  • Invitational with a minor.
  • What else...?

One could either use some Transfer model or Lebensohl-ish approach... (but if our bids are too overloaded, it might get tricky if opener bids 3, or 4...)

Would be nice if the meanings also harmonized with:

  (1)-X-(2)-?

Ideas welcome.
