2 ♣ Multi

This 2♣ opening is not always strong :

The first response is always -2♦, obligatory Relay.

Then opener O’ shows 4 hands types

1) O’-2NT = 22,23 hp classic

2) O’-2♥ = a hand with both Majors, with opening value, can be only 4 ♠,-4♥

                 Resp -pass or -R-2♠= weak

R-2NT = strong fit / Mj 7 losers or less FG

                 Opener rebid as if strong.

3) O’ hand with both Majors strong++ FG ( 4 losers G-1), (5 types)

            O' -3♣ = 5,4 Mj -) Resp’ -3♦ , ask the longest,

            O' -3♦ = 5,5 Mj -) Resp’ -4♣= prefer ♥ / -) Resp -4♦, prefer ♠

            O' -3♥ = 4♠, 6♥

            O' -3♠ = 6♠, 4♥ -O' -4C = 5,6, ♠ + ♥ -) Resp’ 4 ♦, ask the longest.

(If the Landy convention is so popular, it is because it allows the cheapest asking bid, that is -2♦.)

4)  O’ -2♠, hands G-1 (FG) in one Major (♠ or ♥), or in NT

       R’ (second response):

   a) R’ -3♦ = < 2 controls -nil -now opener bid Game

   b) R’ -3♣ = positive ask, looking for a fit Mj – can be only 3 cards if a shortness in a minor, even 2 cards + a void.

       Opener rebid like after a puppet stayman: -3♦ = 4 of Mj, 3Mj 5 cards Mj,  4-Mj with 6, 3Nt no Mj.

   c) R' without a possible fit Major

                     i) R-2 NT shows 2 Kings

opener ’3♣, = a clear Underbid, ask for Aces if needed

ii) R'3♠, one Ace without 2 Kings

----------------------------------------------------------------

corollaries are:

O-2♠ = strong 8 tricks, 5 losers

O-2♥ = same

2-opening = strong in minors

       R -2♥ - relay

Opener rebid:

-3 of a minor 9 ticks in minor classic (G-2)

  - 2NT both minors FG -R-3♥ = is what you want if looking for slam (shortness or Control)

  - 3 NT 10 ticks in one minor (G-1)

                R-4♣ nil poc

R- 4 other suit is what you want if looking for slam (shortness or Control)

You can add to the 2♦ opening a weak 2 in ♠ or ♥, as in the 2♦,-multi or only in one Mj, much easier
