An alternative to Flannery 2?

 

Playing 2/1 Game Forcing, you pick up a hand with 4-5-2-2  distribution and 14 high card points. You open 1 and partner bids forcing 1NT. Now what? You can't bid your spades; that's a reverse. You can't bid 2 or 2 since you only have two. What should you rebid? American bridge player William Flannery invented Flannery 2 in order to avoid the difficult rebid, but there is an alternative for those who absolutely despise Flannery.

Suppose the auction went 1-1NT-2. 2 would be a waiting bid, showing fewer than 6, fewer than 4, and not enough values for a reverse or jump. Then, responder describes his hand with 1 of 7 bids: 2, 2, 2, 2NT, 3, 3, and 3.

1 - 1NT

2 - ?       Pass = Not Allowed

                 2 = Artificial, Shortness (6-9 HCP, 0-1, fewer than 6)

                 2 = Weak Preference (6-9 HCP, exactly 2)

                 2 = Range Asking (Any 10-12 HCP or 6+)

                 2NT = Transfer to (6-12 HCP, 6+)

                 3 = Semiartificial, Both Minors Weak (6-9 HCP, 5+ and 5+)

                 3 = Semiartificial, Fit Jump with (10-12 HCP, 3+, 6+)

                 3 = Limit Raise (10-12 HCP, 3+,)

 

Suppose the auction goes 1-1NT-2. That shows 4+ and not enough values to jump shift.

1 - 1NT

2 - ?      Pass = Weak (3+, 6-7 HCP)

                2 = Weak Preference (6-9 HCP, exactly 2)

                2 = Range Asking (Any 10-12 HCP or 6+)

                2NT = Transfer to (8-12 HCP, 4+) [With a weak hand, you would have passed.]

                3 = Semiartificial, Both Minors Weak (6-9 HCP, 5+ and 5+)

                3 = Semiartificial, Fit Jump with (10-12 HCP, 3+, 4+)

                3 = Limit Raise (10-12 HCP, 3+)

 

The last case: 1-1NT-2, showing 6+ and not enough to jump to 3.

2 - ?      Pass = Weak (0-2, 6-9 HCP)

                2 = Range Asking (Any 10-12 HCP or 6+)

                2NT = Transfer to (6-12 HCP, 6+)

                3 = Semiartificial, Fit Jump with (10-12 HCP, 2+, 6+)

                3 = Limit Raise (10-12 HCP, 3+)

Is there a case that I missed? A hand that is impossible to show? If so, please comment!
