Billy Rosen (1928-2019)

Billy Rosen, whom Alan Truscott called one of the "greatest names in the game," has died at the age of 90.

When Rosenwonthe Bermuda Bowl in 1954 at age 25, he was the youngest world champion ever, a record that was not broken until 1981. In 1953 he won the McKenney Trophy for the most masterpoints earned in a year, and along the way becamethe youngest player to win the Life Master Pairs. He also won the Spingold that year, and repeated in 1954. Hewas inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 2014 as a recipient of the von Zedtwitz Award.

Bob Hamman calledRosen,one of "three players that I'd call really intimidating – if you could see some obscure way declarer could work it out, you had to be afraid he would work it out."
