Careful Timing

With the worst hand I'd held for a long time, pard drove to an 11 trick game. After misdefense at trick two, game had some play. Placing one card (SQ) made game near cold, despite the bad trump break, as long as I got the timing right.

+I had a pretty good hand, and was only contracting for 11 tricks. It's obvious, looking at all the hands, that tapping dummy sets the contract, but some (e.g. one of my teammates) have suit preference fever for singletons in dummy.

+ How do you play on a spade continuation? I decided the queen was offside, so I won and drew trumps two rounds of trumps.

Ok, the trumps didn't break. I can count five clubs, two diamonds, three spades, and a heart ruff for the 11 tricks I need, but I might lose a trick in each side suit. What to do?

I HAD to play a diamond, since it was important to get the curse of Scotland out of my hand.

+Now I could take a ruffing finesse in spades.
