Analysis by Fred Ferguson

Your can't preempt a preempt.

Bidding* East opens the bidding 3, arguably some might consider 1. As much as South would like to bid hearts, a bid of 3 will show opening values, and thus, South passes. West might consider bidding 4, in which case East/West will probably get the contact at 4, but in the auction here, West passes. North makes a balancing double, and South now bids 3. Again, West might consider bidding 4, but could easily push North/South into game, in the auction here West passes.

Play* In the play of this contract, double dummy says, makes 5 but I don't believe this result. West lead the A and a diamond which South ruffs. Declarer (South) might stand a chance of making 5 if he leads the J and West covers the J with the Q, but if I'm playing West I'm not covering the J, I see too many clubs to fall for unblocking the club suit.
