Analysis by Fred Ferguson

There are a number of potential slams this week (see Board 11).

Auction: West deals and with 12 high card points and 5 losers opens the bidding 1. Some partnerships might play strong responder jump shifts, but in the auction here East makes a 2/1 Game Force bid of 2. West rebids 2 and East must now bid some number of notrump to protect the K. In a game forcing auction, East bids 2NT and when West rebids 3, East seeing diamonds as a source of tricks bids 6NT.

Play: It doesn't really matter what South leads as declarer (East) has 12 tricks off the top with 5 spades + 5 hearts + 2 diamonds, making 6.
