Director's explanations on comparable calls

Consider a 1 bid out of rotation at partner's turn to call.    Partner passes, RHO opens 1.

1 will no longer be a comparable call.   In fact, nothing will really be comparable.    Had RHO opened 1,  2 would be a comparable call, but that's not what happened here.

So, you are going to be on your own, but you don't really understand the comparable call rules, so you don't really know what will happen.

Other situations are more complicated, with unusual calls being considered comparable, and normal looking calls not so much.

What should the director do?

Part 2.  If a director rules a call is comparable or not, is that now a matter of law, or is it subject to appeal?

Explain the comparable call law, let the player bid, then rule if partner barred
As in #1, but take a poll to determine if the call chosen is comparable
Explain the comparable call law, list the calls that would not bar partner before the player bids, away from table if needed.
As in #3, but with a poll delaying the game
Do not know or mind not made up yet
