Handling competition over a precision 1

In our version of precision, we've decided to forgo the traditional meaning of a double over interference at the one level (5-7 HCP) in favor of a game forcing double without clear direction, game forcing 3 level bids and transfers at the 1 and 2 levels with less than game forcing values or with slam potential, and a 3 suited takeout for their known suit 2 that is less than a game force. This helps us get them at low levels when appropriate while still allowing us to sort out hands with long suits and to compete where appropriate. In general, this has worked, but last night pointed out a weakness. My main question is what others use in a Meckwell Lite (a misnomer according the Mr. Rodwell, and I believe him, but it is the popular nomenclature) context.

The hand in question, which might not matter was:

I chose double (defined as takeout, but planning to bid 3NT over 3, which should suggest 5-7 and major suit cards). When my LHO, unprompted, ran to 3, I felt stuck, as I had too much to want to defend undoubled, but no place to go. I doubled, and partner left it in. The whole hand was:

Though he can make 4, declarer only made 3.

So here's the real question. Is it just a fluke? Note that we can only make 2 on the actual lie of the cards on perfect defense despite our 24 HCP and 8 card fit. Or 1 if you want to find THAT 4-4 fit. Distributional hands are difficult, and we did not get a bottom, as 3 pairs bid 3X at other tables and made 4. Clearly, this is a difficult hand. But I'm wondering what other big clubbers do over interference. I've only been playing this system a bit more than a year, so I'm still open to suggestions about how to handle difficult problems.

Or is the problem simply one of judgment? Partner didn't double 3. Maybe I can sniff it out and just pass. Maybe I should.

Thank you for any suggestions!
