Interesting hands from Wroclaw (2)

This was an explosive deal, again from the Q1 of the Pairs. Look at it from my perspective. I had the North cards and faced this auction:

North

3 would be natural, but should I bid it when LHO shows length there? I decided to pass. Perhaps partner would still be there. Sure enough, the bidding continued with a 3 overcall by South:

(2) P (2) P (P) 3 (P) ?

Another tough spot. I passed. This was the full deal:

Hard decisions all around. Best defense against this contract would have been a lead, but West, naturally enough, led the Q, and partner lost three diamonds and a heart, thanks to that useful 10 (which would also reward a bold 3 bid by me, earlier).

This hand had 20 (!) doubled (and made) part-scores across the field, and also 9 penalties of 500 or more, including some undoubled contracts. A popular auction led EW to 3NT, 4 or 5 down, once East opened at the 1-level and West forced to game.
