The following hand was reported in the June 1955 Bridge Magazine.  It occurred in the 1954 European Championship match between Austria and Germany.

The vulnerability and bidding are not reported.  Nor are the names of the East-West players, perhaps for the best in view of what happened.

When Austria were North-South, Karl Schneider played 6 from the South hand.  West led a club which was ruffed in dummy.  Schneider played a spade to the ten and West won the Ace.  West continued with another club: Schneider ruffed, drew trumps and played off his winners, the last of which squeezed East in the pointed suits.

At the other table, Egmont von Dewitz declared an even less promising contract, 6 as North.  East led a club which was won by the Ace.  The J held the next trick.  Crossing to the closed hand with a diamond, declarer played a small trump - suffice it to say that East went up with the King.
