My Unexpected Vegas NABC highlight...

Sometimes things just work out... Headed to Vegas with dreams of glory, but failed to trouble the scorers and got dumped from the Von Zedtwitz on D1 (no that wasn't the highlight). Freed up 2 days, and on Saturday my partner and I won a 2-session event ("we found our level pard"), and decided to take Sunday off. My family had joined me, and over lunch I casually asked my 23-year-old son (who had come to Vegas, on the promise for other kinds of card play and table play) if we could play the 1-session event. "Sure" he said. It had been 7 years since he picked up a card -- and a 20 min CC discussion over lunch had simple conventions like "SAYC," "Stayman, Jacoby, no Gerber over out NT; " "invitational raises to the 3 level for all suits;" "New Minor Forcing -- what's dat?;" "All jumps in competition are premptive;" "RKC -- never heard of that? Just straight Blackwood, 0,1,2...;" "Yes to takeout X, neg X -- ignore resp X & support X;" "Natural over their NT."  We settled down as EW for a one-session side event. Most important was our pre-alert, which cracked up our opponents "We are playing today after 7 years, draw inferences from our bidding and defense at your own risk." He was E and had most of the cards and the decisions. And he ended up doing a great job, as we finished at 58% and FIRST in C (we averaged below 750 MPs, and the 8-odd MPs we won DOUBLED his lifetime total). He wore his Vegas Section winner T-shirt the next day, and is (hopefully) re-hooked. We have a date to try to Q for either the GNTs or NAPs Flight B for 2020! Columbus and Montreal, here we come...
