NABC Warm-Up Events

It’s no surprise that NABC newbies might get nervous before playing in his/her chosen events. For most of the events that I have chosen to participate in (they start at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. — albeit not MY chosen start times) the only choice to warm up by actually playing in an event would be to play in a side game or similar event (minimum of 24 boards) starting at 9:00 am.

Surely, there are more folks interested in warming up by actually holding and playing with cards before the start of the 1:00 p.m. NABC events. Even more likely, there are those who do not wish to start playing at 9:00 a.m. (like my partner — who threatens to quit playing if I require him to play in 3 sessions a day starting at 9:00 a.m. — I note that he had no comeback when I said: “what about the zip knockouts at 11:30 p.m. too?”)

In any event, why is there no 11:00 am 12 board warm-up event at the NABC’s? Cannot the warm-up event be like the side pairs so that one must participate in at least 2 session to qualify for a MP award? Do not most folks want to warm up before they participate in a National event? If they do, why hasn’t something been done before now? If they don’t, how do I go about advocating for the inclusion of a warm-up event in a national event?
