Ruff risk or tackle trumps

All,

This wasn't a particularly important deal, but it made me think.  South gets to 6 as follows

The 3 is led (2nd/4ths).  Clearly, the play is predominantly about not losing a trump.

Do you

  1. Win the club lead and tackle trumps directly (if so how), or risk 5-1 spades and
  2. Win the club in dummy, presumably with the Q, then pull a spade towards hand (if so, how do you then handle trumps depending on whether LHO, RHO or you win this trick), or
  3. Something else (if so, what)?

Assume IMP scoring and expert opponents if relevant (though it wasn't the case on the actual deal).
