Seven Heaven

Imagine you are on lead on the following hand. To put matters in context, you have seen a lead of over 50 imps whittled away and (although you don't know it) the opponents are now slightly in the lead. Three hands ago, in fact you doubled 2 and the contract made +1.

The English North led the Q and declarer soon claimed 11 tricks.

The Swedish North led the K and after receiving encouragement from South, Sweden took 9 Tricks - a 7-trick difference.

Since NS are competent players, one would assume that they would have realised that 4 would have made their way (although it requires a fortunate trump split if the defence lead off a club and then 3 rounds of spades.)

The same result happened in the Bermuda Bowl (France V NZ)
