Tales from the Attic: Punch-Counter Punch.

The following hand occurred in a qualifying session of the Life Master's Pairs at A Toronto Nationals

many years ago and appeared in newspaper bridge columns. ( Sorry  the date is missing from my

copy).

I was South and my partner Bernie Gorkin was North. Peter Weichsel  was West.

Weichsel made his normal lead of a club and Mike won the Jack and led a diamond to the

Queen. The Spade ten was finessed and Weichsel won the Jack. Weichsel did some

calculating , Four Spades would go down, so he had to beat 3NT.He decided to give Mike another

Club expecting to get in again with Spade King.  Mike knew a player of Peter's caliber would not

give him a trick with out a good reason.  Mike stripped the red cards from Peter's hand and put

him in with a Club. West then had to lead away from the Spade King.

I have no idea who reported this hand to the Bulletin.
