The age of paranoia

The following is kind of an experiment. The hand below was played in real life, but I have altered the table events. If you know what actually happened, please do not comment on the real events.

A couple of days ago I posted this bidding poll:

South
J
K75432
K3
10765
W
N
E
S
1
P
2
P
2
?

(2 was inverted and 2 showed shortness.) First of all, some players abstained - presumably because they would have preferred to act over 1 immediately. Among the rest, a clear majority opted for Pass. Some chose to double, and one player bid 3.

The player at the table bid 4, which was doubled. An excellent dummy came down: Q9743 AQ98 Q642 -

The contract turned out to be unbeatable. Given the South hand and the 4 bid nobody else would had found, the opponents called for the director. They could not account for any illegal communication in particular but felt that "something strange was going on".

How should the director approach the situation, and what steps should he take?

(PS: Just noticed that there is already another article with the same title - no relation.)
