Tricky Discard at Trick 2! (Flint)

This problem comes from ”Bridge: The Golden Principles” by Jeremy Flint and Freddie North (in my opinion a superb book even if the bidding is a bit painful to see sometimes!). The book consists of 52 declarer problems and 52 defence problems. This is defence problem number 39.

West leads the Ace of diamonds (declarer following with the 5) and continues with the King of diamonds, dummy ruffing with the spade Jack. What should you discard as East, and how should you plan the defence generally?

In fact the answer to this problem interested me so much that I decided to create a bridgewinners account just to share it and see what other people would do! I’ll post the answer that Flint gives in a few days’ time.
