Ok folks.  Our setting is the strong Allendale, NJ sectional and traditionally the premium game is their Saturday IMP pairs event which draws many experts from NY and sometimes Philly.   For the past several years they’ve segmented the A/X flight from the B/C/D flight so the average in A/X is tougher.   Your opponents are a strong expert on left and regular (and strong) client on right.

Opening lead was a low diamond D3 (3Rd and low) to K the A, and you ruff the second round. Now what?   AK clubs? A clubs and ruff?  Enter (how) for spade finesse? Rely on club finesse?  Timing?  I really have no idea what is best line.  I took a line that was probably not best and succeeded when my strong expert LHO perhaps (?) made a very subtle error, a play that I and most others would also make.

Please opine on best line.

Finally, on a more personal note, I am very happy to report that the senior (and perhaps best) female player in our local club, Irene Poonarian, still playing well and driving herself daily, managed to WIN this tough event, defeating several pro players and other experts with her stalwart partner Ruth Bernstein.  Very happy for both of you!
