Yet Another Benefit of Flannery

Well, I'm just getting off my high of playing in the the 2014 Summer NABC! I haven't posted yet about any of my experiences because I was too busy traversing the path between the playing area and my room, winning some Zip KO's, playing in the Youth NABC, not placing in the 0-10000 pairs, and yes placing in a couple of regional Swisses. Swissi?

Seriously though, it was a fun NABC, but no hand was quite interesting enough to overcome my writing-it-up laziness. That is until one fateful morning. Playing on an all-junior team in a two-session regional morning Swiss, my partner and I had agreed to playing 2/1 pretty much exactly the way I like it played: Semi-forcing notrump, Flannery 2, and invitational jump-shifts to the three-level.

Our team lost both initial matches in the round robin we were placed into comfortably (or uncomfortably, more accurately). The next six were all blitzes. Five of them went our way until we were crushed by Jay Barronen's team, with whom we were previously tied for first going into the final round. Overall, we finished fourth in A, second in B, and first in C. A nice exponential outcome.

Anyways, in match six of eight, my partner held the following hand:

West
J9
Q107
876543
A2
W
N
E
S

?

What do you bid at favorable vulnerability, imps, and second seat? My partner must have decided that this hand looked like Flannery to him, so he opened 2. My alert probably really worried him when he realized that he had forgotten that 2 wasn't weak. Even more worrying for him must have been my proceeding bid: 7! As he tabled the dummy on the diamond lead, he muttered with a laugh, "forgot system. Good luck." A few seconds later I was claiming seven when the spades broke 4-3(!) Sometimes you just get lucky.

Here was my hand:

West
J9
Q107
876543
A2
East
AKQ2
A
AKJ
KQ987
W
N
E
S
P

7

An interesting question that arises is this: how can you bid these two hands to the right contract (Assuming that nobody bids Flannery Wink)?
