It says I’m about to lead a diamond, good luck to them!

Honestly until the “relocated to WBF presidents hometown part” was completely believable

It is amazing to me how otherwise good players are so oblivious when it comes to UI cases. The reason for this, I think, is that at high levels there is a variety to what is being thought about in the tanks of a good player.

The same is not true of bad/average players. You ALWAYS know what they're thinking about. I play almost exclusively with students these days, and you just always know what the issue is, because players who are learning don't tank to decide what their agreements are, they just think, “well F*&^, we're in a bad spot what do I do now”

I think its a really cool thing that you passed, it is very thoughtful active ethics, I had an incredibly similar situation come up in December, it feels awful when it happens because the spirit of fairness just forces you to pass since you know something through a break in procedure

Balancing doubles could be on a wide variety of hands, it’s pretty normal I think for double here to be cards and no direction about what strain to play

You wouldn't bid 4S with Axxxxx x Jxxx xx over 3C?

Where's that dislike button when you need it,

South simply has to do something, no chance this is a force, agreeing to flannery without feeling its true beauty is no good

It's just a last train bid, auction has been jammed and you're showing a good hand in context. I think this is on the border of a 5D bid, could argue either side

This is a breath of fresh air. Maybe one or two of these I'm not particularly happy about because of reasons stated here. But bringing bridge into the 21st century and taking steps to lure competitive people is very important.

I didn't learn the game until I was 5+ years into college, it was an accident that I got into it. If the tools for attracting young competitive people interested in games were in place, I think they would be quite successful. This is a great step by the ACBL brass.

Good lesson hand, AKxx should be looking to get tricks out of the small spades, easy club lead

Not bidding 3C over 2D was the worst decision of the auction. North could also have bid 4N over 3H. South bids were all fine, so “missing the slam” is all on North

Now that the hands are posted what an absolute shocker that partner was raising what he thought was your natural spade bid. Just like the 1000000 times someone has extra when they hesitate when partner doesn't alert a bid like this, it's 100% that the posted hand matches what it probably was. This is exactly why passing 3S is the only ethical choice

You transferred to clubs and partner competed in spades. You're not allowed to infer from tempo or a lack of alert that partner forgot or misunderstood. With QJx of spades you have an obvious pass, yes anything else is unethical. Fielding partners forget after a break in procedure is really bad

this is an atrocious ruling. Dummy is way out of line trying to interject a line of play. I'd give the defense a diamond and assign a PP, which I almost never suggest but this is really bad behavior

I sincerely hope you're kidding with this example.

This situation is not a shade of gray. The auction dictates that partner is likely not short in diamonds unless he/she has so little values that they didn't feel a takeout double was appropriate.

Have the opponents never had 13/14 opp 10 in this auction with no real fit?

You can say that it is unlikely, but i'd say it's more unlikely that doubling with this pile of caca will be successful on the majority of deals.

I mean, I want someone to explain to me how since my partner passed originally, I didn't make a takeout double of 1D, my partner didn't make a takeout double of 1D, now I get to take another shot at a takeout double of 1D. I've heard alot of “we never let the opponents play 1N equal white”…well luckily both players already had a chance to make a move and didn't.

If I held this hand and my partner took a long time to pass 1N and I bid, I'd bar myself for 6 months for a lack of ethics, this is just a flagrant act of breaking the spirit of the rules.

Steve, this is the best post I've ever seen on this site. I have had identical experiences with Matt, and am happy to hear he is moving up. He should be the highest authority when it comes to application of the laws and judgment, which even when I disagree I find to be top notch.

I hope this comment is a joke. Whether 2NT is forcing or not, you couldn't have a minimum and bid 2N over a cue bid. East with two aces, 4333 and QJx of trump has an obvious raise to 3N

Same Auction at my table, it's not that bad a contract but for the club split. I did mention to my partner that I don't like Kxx as a stopper to suggest 3N. Now with Clubs/Spades split, 3N will be very good
