I never forgot it Yehudit…still didn't soften her wrath :) mind you, I guess buying her a power-drill was not the most well-thought-out birthday purchase i ever made.

Joanna is entitled to her opinion just like everyone else…she has certainly got my admiration even though, on this issue, she hasn't got my agreement

Round and round the garden
Went a teddy bear.
One step, two step,
Tickle you under there.

Round and round the garden
Went a Croatian man.
One step, two step,
Pokorny got a ban.

Round and round the garden
Went a saddleback.
One ban, two bans,
Pokorny welcomed back.

Round and round the garden
Went the feathered hen.
One ban, two bans,
Pokorny banned AGAIN.

Round and round the garden
Went the water deer.
One ban, two bans,
Pokorny was still here.

Round and round the garden
Went the ginger cat.
Pokorny gets a life-time ban,
Who would imagine that?

Round and round the garden
Went a suckling sow.
One ban, two bans,
Where's Pokorny now?

Apparently 35% of all males in Mongolia are direct descendents of the Genghis Khan :) - a man of many concubines and sleepless nights….

Not that this gristle of information has any relevance to this thread or sub-thread but an interesting piece of trivia nonetheless :)

Phil,

the only (visible) tattoo on my body is the “DONT TOUCH UGLY BABY” that mom paid the midwife's nephew to write on my forehead.

Tattooed often. The biggest was maybe when i started out and my (more experienced) p made (on reflection) an obvious psyche and we played in 5 X - 9 :)

@Adam and Greg.

I agree….seems very unwieldy when you want to go to a particular post yourself or direct someone to one.

Saying something like “half way down after Ken's post before doodahs ans 6 posts down…” lol isnt very technological :)

Also maybe if you could have some way of referencing a particular post (in same thread) and then have the page scroll to it? Especially useful when you are comparing two peoples posts say in the Bidding forum… no need to copy and paste chunks of text to make a comparison when you can just insert links and the reader can gracefully scroll between them… i have see latter on a few forums even had it in mine

Mike,

This is not about apples and oranges - but maybe about some cloned fruit (bitter to the tongue yet a sweet aftertaste :p)

My first experience of you, IIRC, for example, was your reply to my (first) post - you were, needless to say, sarcastic and I genuinely found it funny :)

I, personally, enjoy sarcasm (maybe being accused often enough of too readily adopting it myself) and not offended by it - some others DO find it offensive taking the etymology of the word to heart.

If, however, instead of being ‘sarcastic’ you had been rude, ad hominem and called me an outright idiot for what i had said (maybe that is what you felt, who knows :)) i would not be writing this post :)

But to further Peg's discussion above (may have gone further up the list by the time i post this) it is about INTENT.

You could have said what you said to ridicule me, embarrass me and make me feel small and desiring me to believe that what i had was something REALLY stupid EVEN IF IT WASNT ie the sole purpose was to have a very negative outcome.

OR you could have been expressing disagreement and using sarcasm to put your point across and sugaring (or even salting?) it with a bit of humour and to wiggle your tongue in your cheek. Or maybe something in between.

How one interprets which it is is sometimes subjective.

Now I took your remark for the latter (of course i could be wrong :) ). What i have seen of Dean's posts, some of them (not all) were of the former. Of course that is my subjective opinion.

That is the rub.

Seems some people wish to debunk or somehow trivialise any analogies made, and from memory quite a few have been, to real-life situations and people's reactions to them.

Cyberlife is, needless to say, very different to real :) (thank god) - does not mean that one cannot apply the same paradigms and have certain expectations of behaviour and decorum.

Partner needs to have a helluva hand for 6 to roll in and i am not expecting the minors to break nicely. Looks like p most likely has a M suit void. If s/he making 6 coz can ruff good and has the distro, I would apologise for being a chicken :)

Was really torn between pass and 6 …opted for pass.

oh i always thought it was one of those words with disputed origin like chav where the root was ultimately presumed romany

dunno, i could have got it wrong … i checked on the online etymology dictionary this morning it gave

“fellow, chap,” slang from at least 1560s, said to be from Romany (Gypsy) cova “that man.”

but you can never believe wohat you read on the internet huh :)

Haven't heard cove used in this context for many years David :) another one of those ‘British’ words with Romany origins.

Boye,

I dont ‘know’ the guy either :) (and neither do 99% of others reading BWs, i guess) I admit it. But the persona he has projected himself as in a substantial number of posts is the persona he is, ultimately, going to be judged by. (I am not going to get into some circuitous debate about whether a person should be ‘judged’ or whether i have any right to judge anybody). People can judge me or anyone else, and no doubt they will.

To offer an analogy, people have judged YOU, Boye, over the past month, but that judgement in the main has been an extemely positive one, and quite rightly so, in my opinion. Alas, people have judged Dean and the camps seem very divided. It just happens that a specific sub-population (the admin) seem to have made a rather different judgement than, say, the person to whose article we are contributing to. To me, it is as simple as that.

For all I care, they can let him back on and he can continue posting (for this reason i abstained in the poll). I honestly couldn't care less. I did say he seemed to be a valuable contributor. But, yet again, that is their decision and they are basing their decision on how his OVERALL behaviour, good AND bad, has affected them as administrators, not on the willingness of a handful of posters to champion his re-instatement.

And i totally agree with you that BW has every right to ban you, me or anyone else, and if a person is banned then surely the process is individualised and a decision taken to ban or not is taken based on a covenant they documented. That is their right, as you stated, and one however that some people seem to want to challenge and deprive them off. This is where, as i see it, the contradiction lies.

Lol, they can ban me or warn me, Boye, for talking about lining people up against a wall and it being messy and using the word asshole (maybe the post was even flagged i dont know) - but there is a stark difference. I was being hyperbolic, and maybe using a rather unnecessarily graphic metaphor, but if one were to read my comment in CONTEXT and carefully i was never suggested that they should be :) Just as much as i never said that Dean was an asshole, just reflecting what a substantial number of stakeholders thought. This, perhaps, is where my post differs from some of the innumerable posts by Dean :) This, i am sure, you understand.

And, yet again, Boye, i agree with you :) about the admin not expecting members to agree with them all the time. They shouldn't and I an very sure they don't expect them to.

My post was a simple declaration of what I see as BWs stance at the moment. They see the re-instatement of Dean as non-negotiable.

Let him come back anonymously and build up his reputation. If this is about his participation and not about his ego then it should all be ok.

I don't understand this thread any longer.

The OWNERS and ADMIN can be lined up against a wall and told they will be shot if they don't allow Dean to be repatriated - it might be a very messy wall.

They have said over and over they wont let him back again, and have explained why in too much unnecessary depth.

Don't understand why people are still fighting. It ain't gonna change anything I am sorry to say. People can demand polls and more polls and alter your arguments and change your attacks and turn Dean into a martyr

but it ain't gonna change anything

This is not a debate about censorship - it is about a particular individual who, on occasion, many people believed simply behaved like an asshole and diod so too many times…
