On the first hand seems like West can beat it if he is 3-3-0-7 by ruffing air and playing a trump

I play a true puppet over 1NT . 5 Card majors be damned. It allows responder to describe while opener jumps in to confirm fits and values . The true beauty of it is the fact that all hands that just want to play 4M or 3NT start with 3C puppet . That's where we show 5 card majors. The hands that start with 2C are either invitational or looking for 5m or slam . We get to show nearly all 4-4 balanced quantitative hands below 3nt . All 4-3-3-3 quantitative hands start with 3C and then either show the major and Q bid concentration at 4 level or show 4 card minor over 3D . Easy to back in to 5-3 fits that way

Another part of our scheme was to play 2N-3N as conventional 4-4 Majors NF . The few times we forgot we were able to correct 4M to 4NT with no penalty based on the fact that 4M was, in essence , an alarm clock bid and directors felt we were entitled to “ wake up ”

Very similar to the puppet I used over 2nt in the old days but I tossed it cause I find puppet to be bulky over 2nt and it causes problems with other auctions ( most notably smolen)

One quick blabbermouth fix for hybrid that we used . 3 over 3 DENIED S . Now responder can bid 3NT with or without s

4NT should be RKCB or EXC for Spades depending on methods

It's right to open 1S .

When I look at a hand I decide immediately what direction I want to take . With 5-5 blacks I want to play game in Spades . Easiest way to get there is to open 1S

While I agree that it is dangerous to upgrade to a 2 inverted bid this particular hand is automatic for me . I have a 5 card source of tricks for 3NT or the possibility of running s with 2 fast tricks on the side . Hands that can make a slam opposite shapely mins can afford to upgrade. xxxx A AKxxxx xx is an excellent slam

Michael Rosenberg wrote up a series of 3 articles in Bridge Today after he won the event. Covers all the hands. I suspect the 1998 world championship book will cover them as well

Mike Kopera's rule of 6-5-1-1 13 tricks in NT . Showing J of Hearts as a 3 card raise may be the way to get there. I will prob convert 6 by partner to 6NT . Depends on the auction

I dont believe East would EVER play a trump back looking at that dummy nor do I believe declarer would ever play for that. The first thing I thought of was West must have the ace

The issue is how much do u need to Q bid in Std methods. Give partner a perfect min and I dont have a cold slam. So if I Qbid 4D is partner expected to stay below game with KQx AKJxx
Qxxx x ? 5 level is safe but can we stop ? .

If I do play non serious 3NT ( serious makes no sense as why do I want to reveal anything if partner has no slam interest ) . DBL fit is among my NS3nt defaults I would definitely bid it
