Jacek my boy-I am so sick and tired of losing to you. Going to Poland and spending a week with Gregg, Chris, Joyce, Steve and Liz and getting to meet your families was definitely a trip I'll never forget. Remind me, what happened? For years-whenever I see you the night before a tournament starts I always say hello and how are you and you always respond the same thing.. “wheres Steeeeeeeevie”? Your nervous excitement is so cute. Congrats on a great run. Enough already.

I remember playing Kenny in a Spingold a thousand years ago and his teammates were Paul Heitner and someone. We play Paul, my head is spinning as they are opening 3 card majors (some kind of Canary club) and they just never let us have an auction in peace. I was so relieved to play Kenny in the 2nd quarter till the 1st board when I got to 3nt with stiff Q of spades in my hand opposite a10xxx but of course Kenny binks out the K of spades from Kxx and destroys me….It was a well needed day off the next day. Kenny was quite a character, especially in his early days.

Response to Jojo–If you X with xx in diamonds you must have cards in hearts and less black high cards (kxxxx,aqx,xx,xxx)-still no guarantee with this X. If you had kqxxx, qxxx,xx,kx you don't know if your partner has 3 clubs or 7 clubs and you can't beat 7d as your cards are all in the black suits so you would pass 5d with xx and let your partner decide

Hi Jose-Thank you for being in the Well. Was there ever an investigation following the open pairs in Verona relating to the admitted dumping by various Chinese pairs in the last session where the winners averaged over 98% against their countrymen? If not, why?

Coolest thing I ever heard? Tim McCarver calling the all star game-into his booth comes newly elected Obama. He says to Obama-“how cool was it to just meet the great Bob Gibson”? Obama responds-“it doesn't get any better.” That is how I felt when I had my lucky 1/2 hour 25+ years ago.

I played a session with McCarver at the Phili nationals years back. We had a 70+% game, he played very well. Of course my eyes were so fixated on his hands, that had caught the likes of Gibson and Carlton for years. Amazing he could detach a card after those 2 guys.

Very sad. People don't realize what a mischievous side Richie had. When I was 15 I spent the summer living with Richie. He paid me to get his betting sheets in order in the morning, drive him to the track,(park his car a few miles away so he could save $3), place bets for him, and follow horse owners to listen to what they were telling their friends about their chances of winning the race that day. At night I would drive him to the Mayfair bridge club, where they had a $2 imp game. You would draw for partners and play a 4 board match and then compare and redraw. One particular night I played against Richie-we had 3 good boards and then the last hand I had aqj10xxxxx,ax,x,x and it went 1h on my left by Richie-2c on my right-I passed and it went 2nt pass 3nt and vul against nv I courageously bid 4s-it went X-all pass. My partner assured me that after this hand he was gonna beat the shit out of me. The genius put down xx spades and an ace. I won the heart lead and lead the J of spades quickly and it went low, show out. Richie instructed me that if we somehow lost this match that I should really abuse my teammates-1 guy in particular who he pointed out.So I come back to compare and this guy says hes really sorry they had a terrible set. We lost by 2. I told the guy I assumed this was his first time playing bridge and probably he should make it the last. Well, when this guy was done yelling at me I didn't know what world I was in. Turned out he was Ira Rubin, but who knew.
I remember Richie watching and laughing his ass off-with that cute grin he had. There were many other stories but I think I'll let Eugene enjoy his Sunday.
